Goodies On The Way!!

So I sent most of my work day Friday sitting at my desk, debating wether I should buy a SC pulley....Well I broke down...

Not only did I buy an Alta 17%, but I also bought the Alta intake, MSD ignition kit and Alta IC diverter. So stoked to get it in!

Anyways, real reason I posted was to see what you guys who have a 17%, Ignition, and Intake, are showing HP gain wise. And also, what PSI numbers you're seeing as well as building boost at lower RPM's.

Realizing my other car is a turbo'd RX-8, and that tuning is crucial on turbo cars (has about caused me to sell it a dozen times over), Im hoping that I wont need to worry about tuning issues on Mr. Spike...

Cool

Like an early Christmas ...

At some point all that air improvement flow/modding will probably trigger a lean condition now and then, as it did with mine. After installing the JCW 380 injectors and having the software loaded it never came back.

As far as boost numbers. I see 17-18 lbs.

At least the JCW equivelent spark plugs should be in there too. Did they come in the kit you purchased ?

Air intake is good for sound, and a slight gain...
Ignition...just bling under the hood...
Pulley=goodness. Imo 17% is a good street pulley for daily drivers/commuters...15% better for track junkies/highrevers.
Besure to use a new shorter belt, and the jcw plugs...

Yeah the Alta kit comes with the Brisk Silver plugs. And yes, the Alta Performance Pak comes with the shorter belt.

Can't wait!

I just fixed my BPV spring, did the 17% pulley and WMW Ignition Kit (plugs, wires, coil). My car already had an Alta Intake. You will not be disappointed in any way with your upgrades. The car is a night and and day difference.

Im glad you brought that up. Would it be worth it to go ahead and replace the BPV? Or go to the DT BPV?

Im seeing right at 10psi right now when WOT so I dont think im losing any boost, but I wasnt for sure if I needed to go ahead and replace.

You might be losing some but not much. I was under 5 psi at times. I bought my car and the spring was cracked. It would barely boost under 3k rpm and was super slow compared to now. I found a similar sized spring with similar tension and used that in my original valve. No issues now. It opens and closes fine. If your spring is not broke but weak I know some people have "re stretched" the spring to give it more tension again. You can check this by pushing in on the lever. It should snap back fast when you release it (mine would not come back fully and again was weak). I adjusted my valve fully shut (no leaking pressure now) by adjusting the small set screw. I read that some cars do not need adjustment and some do. There was a write up for it somewhere on the forum. As far as what to buy I opted for the “cost friendly” repair of my original vs buying another one. The DT valve is the popular replacement though.

Bpv are good till they go bad...
A "facelift" gen1 mini s ( 2005+) was sold with a slightly stiffer spring than earlier cars...
the dt valve has a slighty stiffer yet spring....kinda pops closed....some folks like it, some do not...some say it makes the car harder to drive smoothly....comes down to personal prefaces.

FYI we've seen many problems with Brisk plugs so if you get misfires or they come loose be ready.
Also the MSD coil doesn't fit well so be careful, I've had several customer crack their valve covers installing them.
