Anybody else notice this?

So I've owned/driven plenty of cars with HID/Projector set ups before... But it seems that in the Mini people will always flash their high beams at me as if my headlights are too bright. It happens all the time. Literally, every day.

First thought was that they were aimed too high...not the case.

Anybody else experience this?

I have the HID adaptive xenon's and I love them. I wouldn't purchase another new car without them. Honestly in 1.5 years of ownership and nearly 23K miles I have not had a single person flash their light's at me as if to say "turn off your high beams". You may need to have their aim checked (again).

When a MINI owner flashes the headlights at another MINI owner, it is a way of saying 'hello fellow MINI owner". This especially occurs in the summertime when the windows are up and waving is hard to do. I flash fellow MINI owners all the time.

I get this frequently too, but have never understood why. I check my headlights against my garage door to check for alignment of both the main beams, and the fog lights, and have yet to see issues. The cutoff is clean, and the height is correct. I am due for my first scheduled maintenance, so I will have the dealer check them out.

Unfortunately I am not talking about other Mini owners...but I do get those waves sometimes! Always nice.

@evilc66 Let me know what the dealer says, I am relieved to hear somebody else has noticed this too

Yeah! i know what you're talking about actually. before I had my mini, i high beamed someone with a mini in front of me (at a stop light) because i thought he had his high beams on... turns out, they weren't on, because THEN he turned them on, and i was like... ohhh... LOL.

Yes, I noticed it a lot in the Mini's I have had also. That is why I opt for the driving lamps too...that way you can give them a quick look at what a full set of high beams look like!

I think there is a sweet spot for oncoming traffic where the xenon's look really bright on Mini's....dont really get the flashes from on coming traffic that much in my other cars with the HIDs

What I don't get about the mini xenon lights is why they don't have a perfectly straight and level pattern like everyother car I have seen with xenons. My 2003 has an uneven and non-level pattern and so does my 2012.

If the cutoff is straight across, then whoever designed them half-assed it. Proper main beam profiles should have the beam go up slightly towards the passenger side of the car. This is so that long range visibility is improved without blinding oncoming traffic, as well as to aid in seeing possible animal activity at the side of the road before they decide to dart out in front of you.
