R56 Sunroof Rattle
Sunroof Rattle
Hi all...we have a '09 MCS which we love...the only issue is a consistent rattle in the roof..yes, we have a sunroof...
It seems located in the center of cross member....
I have exhausted every effort to localize the problem but to no luck....including the dome light and the trim rings in the front and back...
Has anyone experienced the same and if resolved...HOW?
Thanks

I have a similar issue and I have come to the conclusion that it is the rear glass panel. Unlike the front panel, the rear only rests on its own moving arms which allow some play. It vibrates when driving over rough surfaces and causes annoying noises.
A lot of people have solved this by adjusting the panel, but I believe there is a more permanent solution:
BMW ETK
Look for part numbers 54 34 7278097 and 54 34 7278098. These are buffers for the rear panel, which in my case are nowhere present. I believe BMW must have issued them later as a remedy to the vibration issues, but cannot be sure about it. Check to see if you have any rubber buffers where the panel can rest upon when closed... If not then these may be of help.
(I am in the process of acquiring those myself)

walk0080 could you take some pics of these metal/rubber stops? I would really like to know where exactly they are positioned to know if they can help my situation at all...
I think the rattles can be stopped with some panel adjustment, but the problem is how to get it done properly.

Ours not only leaked air but rattled right from the get go. I told the OL to have it fixed under warranty, but as usual she procrastinated until it was out of warranty and then it cost about $250 to have it adjusted. She's like that, loves to keep the money flowing.
