My baby just went into the shop to repair this damage. Insurance paid for a rental car, so what do they give me? A FORD ESCORT.

Man this thing is a piece of crap. Before I got it I thought hey it's only two weeks til I get my car back - I don't care what I drive in the meantime. Now that I've driven it, I'm not sure I can last two weeks.

I can't believe people actually buy these vehicles!

that's quite some damage from "road debris"! What was it that hit you?

Best of luck on a quick and quality repair,
Ryan

On the way back from Vegas a bird flew up and I knew i was going to hit it so I looked out my driver's door window at the side of the road to keep glass from hitting me in the face and I hit that bird at 95 (it was WHAM) but the windshield did not shatter and i could not even see a crack. the bird hit the top of the car just above the windshield on the passenger side. When I stopped for gas I looked and could not even find a dent, thank God. All the stories about windshields I thought it was going through he windshield and out the back window.

Luckly no damage.

I drove a Ford Focus that Consumer Reports and some of the auto rags (comic books) liked so much. I just don't get what they liked about the Focus.

All I can say is I was glad to be "out of focus"

Ryan, it was a large piece of shredded tire that was kicked up by a minivan in front of me. I didn't stop, but looking at the narrow deep gouges in the bonnet I believe some steel cords must have been hanging from it.

Just an unlucky break. Nobody's fault, but I will leave a little more room from now on to give myself time to dodge future projectiles.

There was much swearing in the Mini that day my friends.

Feel for you Scooterboy. I hit a big old truck recap rolled up in a ball last
summer and lost my Mini for two weeks also.
Things I did to pass time without my mini:
1) bought a remote control mini to play with.
2) built a model of a mini.
3) built a scale model of a mini entirely out of toothpicks.
4) downloaded oragami paper cars of minis and built them.
(look up papercars.net and papertoys.com ) This will get you
started. You can link to other oragami paper car sites from there

Man, my wife was really happy when I got my Cooper back because
I was losing it big time...

Bummer. Scooterboy, even with a clear bra these things can happen. I have two tiny chips on my windshield and a tiny scratch on my hood (beyond the clear bra area). Just take consolation that your MINI, once refinished, will drive as good as before.

I've been carless since friday around 4pm...
The car wont even be looked at till thursday by a mini engineer/rep?!?!?
So knows when it will get fixed.

I called up mini and asked for a loaner, they said they might have one monday morning (that was yesterday) called on monday they said it fell through, but i could rent a car for $35 through enterprise.....

Joy.

So be glad you atleast have a focus or a cavalier, or any car for that matter.
I much enjoyed the car my roomates friend let me borrow, a old Chevy N/A with paint missing, no right mirror and no dash board, and check engine lights all over the place.

Unfortunately I'm only 21 and I cannot have a rental car. This is lame. FIX MY CAR MINI, ITS JUST A FREAKING TAIL LAMP !@#!#$

I was sentenced to a focus for 10 days in November. The good news is when you get your MINI back it will be like the first time you got it except you won't have to deal with the break in this time.

Well darn, I was about to go out and drive the MINI but thought I would check out NAM and seen your post. I hit a large chunk of ice on the freeway yesterday but suffered no problems. Man I hate to see junk in the roadway. When I lived in CA, I seen ladders, paint cans, window frames, and a car hoods all over the freeways at different times. Sorry about your MINI damage. I'm really bummed out looking at the pics of your car. I think I will just leave my MINI in the garage for now. :???:

Focus? A Focus would be great! This is an ESCORT!

Thanks for all the sympathy, although I know others have had it much worse. All my damage was cosmetic - the car drove fine as usual before bringing it in for repair. There were 3 other minis in the shop, all in much worse shape than mine (accidents).

They're going to repair the bumper and roof scratch, and replace the windshield, bonnet, and cowl. After painting, it will sit in a 140 degree oven to cure. Then a new clear bra will be applied to the bumper, bonnet, and front of roof.

I do get to start over with a new windshield, which is nice. Auto body guy said that the newer replacement windshields are "tempered stronger", so maybe it won't get pitted so easily.

Are you sure? I rented a car in CA when I was 21 or 22. The car was covered under my regular auto insurance. :???:

Well I got Mr. Tumnus back from the auto body shop last night and he looks better than new. They fixed all the damage perfectly and the paint job is beautiful. The new clear bra was applied before I picked it up. They even cleaned the interior and the engine bay. Very impressed.

The only problem? At highway speeds the new windshield is whistling! Hopefully it just needs a tweak or something.

Anyway, if you're in the Massachusetts area and need work, call Sublime Restorations in Rowley. He gets all the autobody work from MINI of Peabody, and deservedly so.

Scooterboy, glad to hear that Mr. Tumnus is back and looking sharp! I've had a lot of cosmetic work done on Peanut from damage (front bumper replaced twice, rear bumper replaced twice and painted three times) and I can tell you that a body shop that does a good job is worth it's weight in gold! Both bumpers was painted badly, by two different body shops. One got the paint too dark, the other too light, neither got the tone of blue right. Now she's been treated well by the best body shop in San Diego County as far as I'm concerned... and she looks like new!

Good luck and I hope you never have need of another body shop.
