Upgrading NAV to 2011 DVD

We just spent $200 on this from the Stealer. He said just pop it in, & in about 30min all will be good. That was Friday, now on Sunday, the DVD still has not loaded.

All we get is "insert DVD" Nothing else. If you pop in the old DVD it works instantly.

Of course there are no instructions other then "insert disk" in both the owners manual & disk instructions.

Inserting the DVD is all you should need to do (as demonstrated by inserting the old one). I'd say that the disc is defective or the wrong version. What does it say on the label (should have CCC or Professional)?

Get a refund and forget it. IMO GPS/Nav updates are worthless. Make it easier on yourself: just give him the $200 and walk away and pretend it's updated.

I disagree, there are a TON of new roads & shops around here. The POI has been vastly updates. The disk we have is ONE DVD for the whole US, the new one is on 2 DVD's. I'm hoping they make searching for POI eaiser.

There's the problem. "High" is the version for Nav on the 1st gen MINI (which uses a different format disc).

BTW, they never improved the POI.

Well, it looks like the Dealer gave me the wrong disk.

Hopefully, they removed a lot of the old POI's that are no longer around, & added a bunch of new ones, I mean they had to fix some of the stuff to now have 2 DVD's.

Don't get your hopes up for the POI database, it's crap. The interface does not change any either - so all you'll get are new roads, which may be important to you.

I am taking the harder road. Ordered a copy of software to edit the POI database and am going to load my own. Gone are the useless POIs and replacing them with redlight cameras from the vast databases out there.

Well, I will say the POI's are WAY better then the old disk, & the maps are way more detailed, & have more areas on them.

I have hacked nav disk before, adding red light cameras would be useful, as they are going in all over the place! Really, I never run red lights, & have yet to get a red light ticket.

On our old disk, going to a friends house, it would say we are not on a digitized road, the whole area was not in there, & now it is.

For me it was a worthwhile update, but doubt we will update it again. Our other car nav disk is from 2003 with no updates, some times it has been worth less, & we break out the iPhone.

Oh, one more thing.

Our dealer, is CRAP. Just about every time I go in for a part, they give me the wrong one. I give them my vin, & it's just a R56, how hard is it to get me the right parts?

The other dealer is over 45mi away, & this one is 5mi. Man, I hate having to bring every part back saying it wrong, then get some story how it's confusing on what part fits what.

FYI, Just spoke to Teleatlas folks inquiring about 2011 update:
They had anticipated a release for a 2011 update in March. Now it's expected in August. It will still be called 2011 ...perhaps 2011 v2 or b. The rep on the phone was not sure. Enhancements are coming, but she could not tell me if the GUI would change.

I just bought a 2011 DVDs for my 2007 R56. The stealer installed it, it seems to be working OK with no problems. Part Number 65-90-2-199-845.

I plan to spend some time looking at the POIs. Just wondering if they finally included auto-parts stores.

TeleAtlas customer servíce did call me back with the update. No GUI upgrade. There will be the usual new roads and quite a few POIs. Release is definately set for August. I asked if we would be able to do text search in the POIs or if improved address search by zip code would be added but she said no to both. Let's see if it's worth getting the 2011 upgrade or waiting till CY 2012 to get the next version.
