MINI Connected - Plugin Feature
I love the Plugin feature with my iPhone, since it provides an exact replica of the iPod classic menu system on the connected sceen, and is MUCH easier to navigate through than when accessing the iPhone through the External Devices menu option. However, the resolution on the sceen when I use the Plugin feature is noticably worse. Artwork that shows up crystal clear via the external device input is blurry and muddy through the plugin menu option. Has anyone else noticed this?
I figured that it was likely an output setting of the iPhone, although I don't think that there is anyway to change the resolution that it outputs. It's just a bit disapointing because many of the promotional videos and pictures seem to show a higher resolution. Of course, that's why they're promotional.
I'm surprised that it doesn't work with an iPhone 3GS. It utilizes the "iPod Out" feature of iOS 4. If the software on the 3GS is iOS 4, it should work.

Bspense88, Are you using the Mini Connected app and the AV cable? The cable needed is the AV cable which has a different AUX connector (has 4 rings). Are you able to do other connect features, like pandora, web radio, facebook and such? If not, you have the wrong cable or your app is not connecting. The connected app as to be running. or it does not work. If these are working, then look in the Connected menu and select plugin. If you are getting the Connected features, but no plugin, then you need to call Mini usa or your dealer.
I just got my mini with connect. The dealer gave me the wrong cable (ipod cable) and had to send me AV cable to get it to work right. The old cable would play audio from the phone (pandora and ipod), but would not do the connected features. New cable with the Connected App, works like a champ.

Hey bspence-
I just got my MINI with Connected so I've been futzing around with it too. The Connected app does not need to be running on the iPhone for PlugIn to work, but you do need the proper AV cable because the PlugIn interface is just the iPhone outputting it's own menu via video out. If you look at the Y cable that came with your MINI, the audio jack that goes into the car (the one that looks like a headphone plug) should have 3 black rings on it. If you just see two, you do not have the right cable.
Hope that helps. I'll bet you don't have the right cable...

Bspense88, if you got the right cable, then I have no idea why it is not working.
Are you able to do the Pandora radio with cover flow or play a video? The video select is in the CD/media menu. This is assuming you can get to your ipod there. If these do not work, you may not have the right cable.
This thread has a pics of the cables.

Me too! I get a message that this connection is not optimized for this otion - or something like that. I have the cable the dealer gave me, but I'll check the pics from the other thread and see if I have the wrong one.

OK...I'm waiting on my car so bear with me. I just want to be prepared when I get it.
This is what I currently have;
120GB iPod Classic (about 1 1/2 yrs. old). I want to be able to use this primarily and see the album artwork on the screen. What cable do I need for this to happen?
I also have an iPhone 3GS with IOS4. Can I use the same cable as the one for my iPod classic or will I need a "different" Y-Cable in order for the iPhone functionality (Connected App) to work?
Thanks in advance.
