Rattle in dashboad

I hate to ask this but has anyone here experienced some faint rattling sound/vibrations somewhere in the passengers dashboard. It's usually when reving and/or hitting bumpy patches. And does anyone know what it could be? It sounds like wire rubbing onto something.

1st thing to do in order to isolate this sorta stuff is to remove EVERYTHING from the glove box and door pockets. Run the roads where you experienced the sound and see if it goes away.

9/10 times it just ends up being items we stuff in there

If it's still there, next bring along a front seat passenger and see if they can isolate the offending area so you don't run off the road looking for it.

If unable to find it, bring it to your dealer.

This stuff drives me nuts too but the early models are noted for issues like this. I ended up removing my dash top and panels, and found the rubbing areas and fixed it with stick foam pads. I have 109K miles now and still not one rattle or vibration

Rattles are standard on all MINI's!

My wife's 05 Cooper Convertible S had several rattles. Enough, in fact, that we decided that as much as we loved our MINI, we probably wouldn't be getting another one.

We've read that they had gotten better, and that the Countryman is better-built by Magna, so we decided to take the plunge again.

YMMV.

I spend a lot of time punching the dash o my '04. My children think I'm nuts. I do hope I won't be in for more rattling - hope someone has an answer for you. I'd go back to the dealer myself.

Pop hood, open battery compartment, and re-clip the battery terminal cover!

Ditto on my 2004 R53. Had a rattle in my center stack at about 4k, but I installed Ian Cull's "auto up" circuit and the rattle disappeared in the process! Nothing between then and 94,000...yet.

Assuming anyone looks at this thread and says "me too!"...

There's a TSB out now for a loose wire in the dash. I had mine taken care of last month, and it requires the entire dash to be taken off... Not kidding. No more rattle. Stupid wire.

Sometime, i have a rattle behind the speedometer...

So it is impossible to fix it yourself?

Theta, could you post the TSB number or a copy of it if you have it so that I can bring it to my dealer... there are so many rattles in my car that is driving me crazy.

They remove the entire dash, glove box, center console, everything behind the column, etc. It's really involved, so I don't think you want to do it yourself.

Not sure about the TSB code, but the dealers are well aware of the issue.

Fraid a common issue in the uk on our threads and forums, one of our club members said he wanted to go to the oxford plant just to find the guy who installed the dash in his R53 and punch his lights out!!! My Mini One used to drive me nuts but my clubbie, touch wood so far not developed the noise but most of us have experienced it...sometimes just pushing the dash solves it with your hand, failing that turn up the stereo!!!

Does the rattle sound like a ticking noise when the speedo goes down to zero?

Wholly Smokes! I wish I found this 3 weeks ago. Stared hearing rattle and new it was going to be a hard one, because it was under dash.

Read this, opened hood, lifted battery cover, sure enough the red terminal cover had come undone and was resting on the firewall.

Re-clipped it and good to go.

Did anyone else find the cover impossible to re clipped? It just doesn't want to clip in, almost like it's not made to clip?? It won't fold down enough to clip into the tabs.
