SmartTop for R57 Convertible

Anyone put in the smartTOP Remote Roof Top Control for MINI Cooper Convertible (R57) ?

I've been looking around for something aftermarket for the roof controls. I find it a pain to have to hold down the button inside for the sunroof, then hold it down again for the roof to go down.

And from the fob, I just can't seem to get that working properly. I know if you hold down the unlock it will open, but you have to keep holding the button down for it to work. Not an issue, but a pain and inconvenient.

This mod advertises as a one button control, you hold down once and poof - roof goes all the way down and the same with putting it back up, hold down once and it goes back up. Same with the inside controls, only have to hit the button once to get the roof to go down.

Anyone have any thoughts/comments on this?

And for everyone who has purchased it - how hard was it to install? What needs to be taken apart to install? Is it a DIY job?

$365 for the little module that does the auto open and auto close? Seems way to high I would think.

URL = http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=2457

Also seems to be a pretty serious install

URL = http://www.wit-usa.com/sms/db/smartt...ll_MINI/en.php

Is this the only solution for the R57, or is there something else out there?

Is this the one your talking about?

Fits 2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Convertibles.

UnfortunatelyI can't seem to find one that fits the R57 2010 convertible. Have you found one?

That's the one! I bet the pricing will be much more reasonable too.

I asked to be a beta tester but I think the folks at TopCommander are working with locals on their DT&E.

I am sure It'll be great once it's out and worth the wait.

SmartTOP features list:

Tap CLOSE 3x to close the top only.

Remote Control

Hold "OPEN" down for about 1 sec., then let go: All windows roll down.
Hold "OPEN" down until roof starts moving, then let go: Open sunroof only.
Hold "OPEN" down until roof starts moving, then let go and tap "OPEN" again once: Roof opens, then all windows roll up.
Hold "OPEN" down until roof starts moving, then let go and tap "OPEN" again twice: Roof and windows open.
Hold "CLOSE" down for about 1 sec., then let go: All windows roll up.
Hold "CLOSE" down until roof starts moving, then let go: Roof, windows and sunroof close.
Hold "CLOSE" down until roof starts moving, then let go and tap "CLOSE" again once: Roof and windows close, sunroof stays open.
Hold "CLOSE" down until roof starts moving, then let go and tap "CLOSE" again twice: Only roof closes.

Maximum allowed speed for roof operation: 40km/h

All-Windows-Switch

This function allows to program the "all-windows" switch to raise all windows using One-Touch. By factory this switch only does One-Touch down.

Automatic door unlocking
This function can be set to automatically unlock the doors when either the key is pulled from the ignition lock (setting ACC) or when the ignition is turned off (setting IGN). This removes the requirement to pull the door handles twice to get out of the car. Please note that on the E64 both settings result in the same behavior, as there is no "ACC" position on the ignition switch.

Installation is easy (30 min):

Sent an email that never got answered. I guess I'll have to pony up the bigger funds. Kind of a drag as the price is very different.

Good to see I'm not the only one looking for this. What's the chances we could get enough people together for a group-buy if/when these become available?

LOL!

Let's get them to respond to people who want to send them full retail prices first! LOL!

I've just received an email from Mods4cars, they've updated their SmartTOP for the Mini. It's now coming with a full plug and play harness at $299:

http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/in...de=view&id=115

Price has dropped and installation seems to be super-easy now:

Nice. I like it! Might have to wait for my tax refund but I think I'm going to get one of these. The features I want the most are automatic up/down for the top and auto-up for the windows.

I read the instructions and it seems relatively easy to install.

Now, someone, please-please-please, buy this and let the rest of us know how it works and whether it is worth the price. I'd really like to ask for it for Christmas but I regret so many things I buy - like the armrest I returned last week - that I don't want to be the first to buy this.

TIA for whoever is willing to be a guinea pig.

Just checked the links. Finally, a way to fold the mirros automatically when locking the car and unfolding when unlocking. It's magical! This is on my wish list as well.

At one time mods4cars was offering the following discounts for group buys:

-10% for 10 or more orders
-15% for 20 or more orders
-20% for 30 or more orders
-25% for 40 or more orders

I'd absolutely pull the trigger at 20% off!

I was also really looking forward to this feature as well but unfortunately it is not available for the R57, only the 1 Series E88. mods4cars has stated they are always developing tweaks and new features (upgradeable via USB) but they need a R57 in their lab in Las Vegas for some research & development. Anyone near Las Vegas with an R57 (with power foldable mirrors) interested in the SmartTop?
