I'm one of the smart asses that said how easy it was. At least in my memory from 6 years ago it was easy.

I could take a bunch of pictures or we could talk by face time to help you find it.

Ha... appreciate the offer, man. Something got into me after posting that and I got it done. Granted the parts aren't back by factory standards (a few broken rivets and a missing nut), but at least I can enjoy this damn thing. Hopefully I didn't mess up anything warranty related. Honestly, I've performed surgeries and this installation was tough to do initially (hopefully it'll be easier when I need to remove it )

FYI, I was using this guide the entire time: http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/db/smar...ll_mini/en.php

I have the SmartTop R57 system and love it. Took me all of an hour to install it and Ive have had no issues whatsoever after using it for over two years. I particularly enjoy being able to close the top and windows when I park just by pushing and briefly holding a single button as I walk away, and then lowering the top and windows the same way when I am returning.

I bought one a couple of years ago. It really was an easy installation and it works perfectly! One-touch operation, plus it works with the original fob.
I sold my R57 last night and I took the module off. It retails for $300, so I decided to put it on eBay. If you are interested, you can find it at

Thanks!

Resurrecting - installation experience?

Howdy! I really like what SmartTop does to improve the open/close experience. I'm pretty geeky and handy, but terrified of messing up a 2-week old car. Any thoughts about the overall experience installing it? It looks doable, but wanted to hear from someone who actually did it 1st Thanks!!!

After looking around a little more... I chickened out and am having a local audio pro do the installation. $175 is worth it for peace of mind and a go-to if something acts up Can't wait until Tuesday to get it installed.

Best, most functional mod I've ever done for my Mini. Ultimately, was worth the price of admission.

Totally 100% agree. It's seems pricey, but once you've installed it, it makes opening and closing so much simpler and user friendly and you forget the cost!
