Shucks, that's too bad, I would totally volunteer to test but it's not the same as being there. Hopefully, an R57 version does get made.

Just to be clear, there is a version for the R57 but it does not support the power folding mirrors of the R57...yet.

Had this on my 09 911 turbo, which the JCW replaced. It was worth it, then I sold it for $50 less than I paid for it, retains its value. I'll definitely be picking this up.

"On Mini convertibles it is even possible to enter command sequences to determine the desired position of the sunroof/convertible top combo. Touch the switch once to open the sunroof only, touch it twice to open the top, touch it three times to open top and all windows. All these options are also available from the key remote transmitter. “The cumbersome act of holding down the switch and letting go just in the right moment is a thing of the past."

I tried to contact them to see if they found a solution for the folding mirrors because it works on the BMW 1 Series but not on the R57. It's been 2 weeks and no answer

Weird, I've checked and I used a clean email address. I don't get spams.
Nevertheless, I'll wait a bit longer for the update if it comes or maybe I'll buy it for springs. Weather is really bad in France, I won't open the top for the next months I guess

Hey kids-
Just got this baby for the holidays & super-psyched to install & use but alas & alack, it seems the update & programming via computer is only available for Windows. Is this true?! If so, has anyone found a workaround for us Mac users?
Thanks so so much!

What if you ran Windows in a virtual environment on your Mac?

Thanks for the suggestion.
Forgive my further questions, but I'm not very technically proficient...
I researched this idea & was wondering the following:
Do I need to use a program like Virtualbox, or will a simpler program like Wine do the trick?
If I do need Virtualbox, I need a Windows disk, right? How difficult & time-consuming is the installation & can I perchance find the Windows disk on some disreputable site?
Thanks for your help (& patience!).
I realize these questions are probably more suited to a Mac site, but I thought maybe someone here has gone thru the same thing & can help a desperate newbie like me.
Thanks again.

Easy install

I installed my smarttop today and it couldn't have been easier. The instructions were great.

You can set all of the options using the mini's toggle switches, you don't need to use a PC if you don't want to except for updating the firmware.

Hello None and Sinus,

That's great news that the SmartTop works on the R57. Earlier in the thread there was a question about the folding mirrors also responding to the SmartTop.

Does it work with or after the update and overall what do you like about it after installing it.

Thanks.

I don't have folding mirrors so I can't comment on them.

I bought the smarttop for the one touch controls. I don't like having to hold the top button or window up button the way that mini wants you to. Using the remote to close the top is convenient because I always close the top after unloading my kayak because I don't like leaving the mini open at the boat ramp. Its nice not having to get back in the car wearing a life vest in order to close the top.

Same here, I don't care about folding mirrors.

Don't forget: It's a roof top control add-on and therefore it works as advertised:

Touch the switch once to open the sunroof only,
touch it twice to open the top,
touch it three times to open top and all windows.

No more holding down the switch and even remote control!

Top Commander

The SmartTop system looks awesome, but it still a little steep at $299. I saw the Top Commander brand (which is around $69) but it looks like from their website that it was never developed for the R57. I saw a few posts from about 2 years ago where they were doing beta testing. I emailed them to find out why one wasn't developed but haven't received a reply.

Thanks Fayettedawg, please keep us updated. To me, its worth it for $70, not $300 though.

I'm with you. $300 is too rich for me. I'm really interested in one, but can't justify the price.

Finally got a reply from the company about the Top Commander for a R57

"Yes, one is in the works but there is no ETA"

Way to go! Thanks for the update. At least they are not ignoring you or the R57 crowd.

Just installed the SmartTop system. I am not very technical at all around cars, but I found the install very, very easy for it. Basically, the hardest part was to get to the top control box. After that, it was plugging in a couple of wire bunches into their sockets. The top control has improved dramatically. I am sure you can download the full feature list, so I won't go over that again. The best part is that I no longer wait in the car with my arm holding that toggle switch to close the top. I get out, hold the remote down for 4 seconds to lock, and everything gets all buttoned up.

I don't have power mirrors, so no update there. It is totally worth the price.

Thanks for the post straycat1212. Question for you, does the initial setup require the interface to pc/internet or is that only for subsequent updates? Looks like you were saying you took from box and connected it up and it worked right away with your key fob & internal car controls.

Thank you
