Installing Sirius Radio

Hi - My kids bought me a Sirius Starmate radio for my 2008 Cabrio. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to mount and install it? I'm not clear on how to install the antenna. Would going to the dealer to install be the best?

Thanks for any and all input.

KC

Its a piece of cake to install, put one in mine last week took about 40 minutes, mounted it at the bottom of the center stack, looks good and is out of the way.

I went to Best Buy to install mine on the R56 Hatch...

On my old Red 07 Beetle Vert (Antenna was located in the center on top of the dash near the glass)...which I plan to do on my Red 07 R52 MCS.

radio install

The radio install on the cabrio presents a problem most of these other people don't realize and its not where to put the reciever. The ragtop and body style greatly limits where you can place the antenna. I have found through trial and error that the best place for me was at the base of the windshield center of the cowl panel. You can run the antenna wire through one of the existing gromets through the fire wall for neat install

I removed teh suction cup from the window mount, turned it upside down, and installed it here.

Pretty simple to do...I ran a power cord from the outlet in the trunk to the front, then set the display module in the right cup holder.

Please excuse the greasy fingers

As for the antenna...I just ran the wire up around the dash on the right side, it stuck it dead center. It gets perfect reception and my signal is as good as my other cars with stock installations.

Now if you would please excuse me...after seeing these pics, I have some car cleaning to do.

I'm looking to add my Sirius to the Mini. How did you attach the suction cup mount to the console? Thanks

I pretty much have the same install as in the photo. Skip the suction cup, and get some velcro. The radio is hard to see if you are not sitting in the car, so I'm not too worried about it being stolen. Of course, I'm not parking anywhere with the top down for a few months. It's a temporary solution for me, but it seems to work just fine. I'll get something hard wired somewhere (DICE, Blitzsafe?) in the next few months.

Antenna on the dash works like a charm btw, and it's not in the way at all. Wire is easy to snake around the windshield and the trim. Took 5 minutes with a plastic putty knife. I spent a lot longer on my X5 back in the day.
