R56 Question about Bluetooth system!
Question about Bluetooth system!
I do not own a MINI yet, but am curious about the "Bluetooth and USB iPod adaptor". Is this adaptor needed for Bluetooth functionality?
If I purchase a MINI with NAV do I need to get this adapter as well to get Bluetooth working? If not what does it add?
Thank you!!

Bluetooth operates independently of the USB iPod adapter even though they were packaged as a single feature when I purchased them. I don't know that the NAV has anything to do with either outside of a different UI. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking on the last part. You have to have the bluetooth option to use it. The USB interface is for playing audio from a connected iPod or USB thumb drive.
I think my question/confusion comes from the fact that on the MINI site there is an option, "Bluetooth AND USB/Ipod adaptor"
--Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel with this bluetooth hands-free system that lets you control your phone or Mp3 device via the stereo controls. iPod/iPhone cable included. --
So,, do I NEED this option to have bluetooth in the car? Or do all cars have bluetooth and this just add some sort of extra functionality?

IMO, its a good pick. Before my MINI, I never had either option in a car, but I just love it. Ipod always connected for music and Bluetooth for handsfree phone. I don't think I could ever buy another car without either!
To have BlueTooth, you need to explicitly have one of the BlueTooth options, either that one, or the "Comfort BlueTooth ..." or the convenience package which includes one of those packages.
Its well worth getting it, its the one option I really wish Tristan had (and doesn't). I bought it for the BlueTooth and the iPod/USB came for "free", the iPod functionality isn't too bad. The MINI iPod adapters have been a bit flaky, and I'd given up on them.

I think the reason they word it this way is that the USB port is built into the module that provides the Bluetooth connection- if you order one, you're getting the other.

most certainly need the Bluetooth and Ipod package for the car! Are you ordering it? And why the Navi? Why not go for way less money the Garmin Navi, and custom it yourself? You will save a bunch of money there. If you want to know where to get the mounts that match the car exactly go to Kuda.com . You can mount a GPS and never know it didn't come with the car. you can personally email me and I will send photos to you i f you like....--Stacy
