I placed all three outlets on the slightly angled, flat plastic piece below the instrument column and just behind the cigarete lighter. There is only one screw and two clips holding this piece in place and it's easy to drill.
I ran a 16ga wire under the rug to the cig. lighter for power and the negative wire to a screw up near the steering wheel.
Looks great and works great. One outlet runs my XM radio unit that is now (since I gained room over the cig. lighter) mounted near the cup holders and the other outlet is for my cell phone charger or my iPod charger.
I self installed the BMW aux. radio input kit so that I could place the plug in the same location and not in the glove box as recommended.
I did the radio outlet install this morning while my car was warming up. That's how long that took!
When using all three outlets, all the wires are tucked behind the XM unit. It looks great.

If there is an interest I can post photos and a more detailed install report.

Sounds easy... and makes great use out of the wasted space back there. Need pics to get the courage to do it to it.

God speed.

... sounds like an Interior Mod to me ... that extra power outlet will come in real handy for my 12 volt Pop Tart toaster (and that has nothing to do with Audio!) ...

Definite Interior Mod material! I use the extra power outlet I installed (in the parcel shelf) for charging batteries among other non-audio tasks.

Putting this in the audio forum is like saying a post in Performance Mods that talk abotu how his new perf mod gave him more mpg that allowed him to go to texas on less gas - and we need to move that to the South forum.

SORRY for not posting photos yet. I've been waiting to pick up my new toggle switch panel so I can put everything back together and take some decent pics. I pick it up today. Photos to follow. Promise.

Same here, I just went to Radio Shack for a 3 outlet adapter, it's huge! I don't think it's gonna work. I need an outlet for Valentine One, mobile, and iPod....I'm thinking of hot wiring in my V1 to save some space...
