Dog Fight: R57 VS MX5 (Miata)

It's a bit off topic, but it's a great comparison between two recently update cabriolets by fifth gear:

2009 Mini Cooper S Cabriolet vs 2009 Mazda MX-5(Miata)
http://fwd.five.tv/videos/cabriolet-shootout

Enjoy!

Love the Alfa Romeo Spider in the booze add that begins the video.

I noticed sometime ago that MINIs were getting better times at an AutoX than Miatas.

Did I hear him correctly? Did he really call the MCS Cabrio a "tart's car"?

I'm selling my '08 Miata to get an '09 JCW. Yes, I'll miss the RWD, but almost everything else the Miata does great the JCW also does (sometimes better).

They are Cabrios, so they are both tart's cars.

I've had an 02s ,, the garage houses an 07s and a highly Cooper-ized '79

&

I still miss my 75 (da 95) Miata ... true sports car there.....

RWD and a snappy tranny ... You don't need mega HP to have fun.

Wat was REALLY fun was a section of VA country roads....drive it in the Miata (rwd top down fun) .... then the 79 .... raw fun, sticky but loud ;;; then the 02 S .... JUST STICK IT

funner then the adult go-carts down the road . . .

ahhhhhh - Sundays .....

after service of course.

I don't think you will... I just sold my 06 BMW M Roadster for an 09 MCS 6 Spd with LSD and I don't miss RWD at all. It took a day to re-calibrate but this thing's a little go-kart, I love it.

You can't go wrong with a Miata. If you need 4 seats and a trunk that can fit more than a purse, the Mini's faster too.

I have to agree with you my 95 Miata is more fun that a barrel full of monkey's.

You should have kept that 75 Miata. Quite a collectors item, since it was 14 years before they were made.

I was surprised by this (I got to see it on TV last night as I am currently in London) as I thought the Miata would take it. It was realy not a contest as the Mini won rather easily.

I agree "like Top Gear" but not nearly as good.

after 16 seasons of 5th gear u just heard of it? lol

as for the cars

i'm amazed how much heavier the Mini is then the hardtop counterpart, as well as a METAL hard top car is..

I almost bought an 08 miata.. but when I saw the face lift was coming soon, i skipped out... That and the N/A engine felt pretty slow in a straight line..

my MCS fills in that low/mid range and makes it feel much more grunty..

MX-5 is a great car tho.. especially with the new RX-8 "look" to it..

it shoulda came with a Rotary tho.. then i woulda bought one hands down..
