We bought a Moke!
We bought a Moke!
Never really thought I would get the chance to own a Moke but now we've got a '65 and her name is Victoria!
She needs some more assembly and engine work but a good solid shell is there and she's ready to be assembled.

Going to take more pictures today and going to dive right in!

A recent Mini Magazine issue had an article about a tricked out Moke. The owner had installed a 1380 block and some lighweight gear, outputting about 260 bhp/ton. They had used a digital instrument cluster from a superbike ... it looked really cool.
Any idea how much your Moke weighs? What power unit is in it?
Congrats on your purchase.

It won't fit on my bathroom scale
but the Wiki article about them puts the weight at about 900 pounds
It's got the 850cc engine in it currently which I think I am going to leave in there until I can afford/find something larger.

Here's how the story goes (might be a little long winded up I'm still quite excited about everything):
We (Wife and I) were at the British Car Swap Meet and Autojumble a week ago at the Minis In Northern Illinois ( www.minisinil.com ) table talking to people about the club when an older gentleman comes up and talks to us about a Moke that he has for sale. He gives us one of the pictures he had printed up and he also pinned one on the bulletin board with the few other for sale ads. We talk it over but I've already fallen in love at this point. My wife keeps her calm as I am ready to RUN to the bank. He lives not too far away so we give him a call to see if we can go check out the car since it's not everyday you get to see a Moke up close. So the swap meet ends around 130pm and we call him back since we are available to see the car a little early. We meet him at the house and the Moke is packed into a small garage along with a Orange NZ Mini and the Moke looks pretty darn good. It's about 80% assembled, still needing some engine work and other minor assembly but all of the important bits are there. On the ride home we talk it over and decide that given the circumstances this is one of those "offers you cannot refuse" but we still need to think about it some more. After discussing it a little more we come up with a small list of questions to ask him about the car and give him another call. All of the answers were in line and we agree to put a deposit down on the car. "WE JUST BOUGHT A MOKE!" At this point I'm up in the stratosphere on cloud 9 and excited as can be.
So I meet him the next day and give him a check for the depost and we set up a time to pick up the car on Saturday. "WE JUST BOUGHT A MOKE!" Fast forward to Saturday morning and I'm jumping around the house saying "MOKE MOKE MOKE..." until it's time to go get the car. More "MOKE MOKE MOKE" on the way over and then a short drive later the Moke is ours and we officially name her Victoria.
The short version is that we were in the right place at the right time when an older gentleman decided to sell his Moke after injuring his arm and deciding to par down his inventory of cars. Again, "an offer we cannot refuse"
Is it a perfect Moke? No, but it's our Moke now and I'm still smiling when I think about it.
