Photos of the recall-replaced MCS exhaust pipe

I got my recall notice in yesterday's mail for the MCS exhaust pipe. I know that it's a reasonable recall, as I was "branded" on the ankle by my new MCS like many others (just once though... now my Mini has me trained to mind my feet). But I don't want to mess up the look of my exhaust if the new pipe looks weird.

Any before and after shots (or just an after shot) of the replacement part from someone who got the recall switch done?

Thanks!

I think it's a totally lame recall. I think something is taken from the world when we try to make everything soft, comfortable, pleasing and friendly for every single person. If the tailpipe is a deal breaker for anyone, there are plenty of cars in the world that have wimpy short non exposed tailpipes.

(I just got this recall notice and don't like it, don't take too much offense to my statement)

I dont have an issue with my exhaust tips sticking out. In fact they grow as the SS expands and I never burn myself on them. To shorten the tips would be like dirk diggler shortening up his business end, thats something you just dont do.
Let your tips remain Long and shine proud, ........ Cold.......HOT

my SA thinks it is lame as well-- I'm getting a JCW exhaust and he said the tips can be moved in/out a couple inches. No biggie really.

curious, if you have the JCW tips (like I do) do they require the mandatory shortening? -do they have some new JCW shortened tip?

Shorter tips

Like I said in another thread, I can't tell the difference. As for the notion that you have to be stupid to get seriously burned, that's nonsense. Maybe you the owner have learned to avoid them but how about someone else who doesn't know the potential danger there? It only takes about 2 seconds of contact and it's skin graft time. This happened to one guy who's a doctor. It just takes one accident involving your car and you'll switch them asap. There's no disadvantage to shortening them in looks or performance. I get the impression that some posters who emphatically oppose the switch may be afraid it'll shorten something else that's near and dear to them!

Their nose?

I want a shorter nose. Guess it's good that I have a 2009 with the shorter exhaust tips.

Hmmm, exhaust tips... Maybe they have a valid concern.

Seriously, I don't see the difference judging by your pics. Actually, to be honest it dosen't appear to solve anything, they appear to be able to make contact. I'll stick with the originals.

I wonder why mine don't get hot. I can come home any day and I can grab the pipe and it is not flesh searing hot. I can hold my hand on them. This is after highway driving and city driving.

I bet that was the last time the Doc make that mistake This guy isnt your Doc is he? Even before I replaced my exhaust, I thought hmmm I wonder if anyone burns themselves on these, I even tried. I think if people want to fix it good for them, I just think its silly especially when you think about the other issues like the scoop or foot well burns.

I am curious why a doctor getting burned by his pipe is worse or better than anyone else? Maybe the doctor isn't very smart and doesn't know that exhaust pipes are hot?

He had his leg braced while unloading something from the back of the car and leaned so as to touch the exhaust tip. Because he wasn't able to move the leg instantly he needed a skin graft. That's what he posted. I just found that if I back my leg against the rear bumper it will no longer touch the exhaust tip, before the change it would.

+1.
I wonder if those who get hot exhaust tips also get hotter engine which melts the hoodscoop.
Maybe some engines are just cooler.

Is the recall only happening down Stateside? I've not received a notice up here in the true North strong and free.

I had the JCW kit added last month and my tips stick out so far you can see the whole logo, and then some, at least an inch further than what's been posted recently.

recall?

and funny thing: they dont get that hot either...

I had mine shorted a couple of weeks ago. I think they look better shorted. Here is what they look like after, both photos.
Photos didn't work, darn. Will try again.

I have an '09 and the tips come to the back edge of the bumper, which look just fine to me. I don't think I would brush up against them accidentally as is. If they stuck out another inch or two, I could see someone brushing up against them. Anyone who thinks exhaust pipes aren't hot should grab hold of one after an hour of driving. You will surely understand (and need a skin graft)!
