Drivetrain Ferodo DS2500s SQUEAL!
Got some Ferodo's last week and while they feel better and dust less they squeal like a PIG! I was under the impression that this was more of a trait of the DS3000 not the DS2500.
Anyone with Ferodo DS2500 care to comment?
Regards,
Paul
Paul,
No, I've seen that from three cars now, where under light braking - just touching the pedal, they squeal.
I've noticed that it seems to depend on how you break them in, but I honestly haven't figured out the right way to avoid squealing. For performance, the best way is to follow the enclosed directions. That works for most, but for those few cars that squeal, it doesn't.
I have tried the old Porsche trick of grinding a small angle on the pad surface, and it helped, but the suealing was still just barely there.
I have yet to try stop squeal or an equivelent, so that may work as well.
Hope that helps!
Randy

I got rid of my EBC on front and put DS 2500 front & rear. I've taken them off 3 separate times and used various anti squeal stuff. I finally got the fronts quiet but the rears squeal with light pressure all the time. It really is annoying in town driving. Wish i knew this before I spent $280 on pads-I would have gotten another pad. They do stop nice and have much less dust than stock but that squeal is something.
Mine squeal just as Randy described it.
Much less than my Porterfields. I think that they are a less agressive pad.
Sometimes a few hard 80-40mph stops will burn the glaze off of them. But it comes back.
Think of it as telling the world you don't have stock pads.

Ya, that's it exactly Randy. Bit of a releif to hear that others are experiencing the same thing. Strange, first thing in the morning, no squeal, by the time I'm home for the office it drives pedestrians nuts. I think what I'll do, considering the cost of the Ferodos is run them until my autocross/track days are over for this season and then put some stock MINI pads or some green stuff or something on for the winter.
On a related note can anyone tell me how neccessary it is to have the car up on four (4) jackstands while bleeding the brakes? I'm going to be using my Motive pressure bleeder on a buddy's car this weekend (He's my guinea pig). Is putting the rear on jack stands first acceptable? Randy's How-To recommends getting the car level and I was wondering how important that is. Or is jacking the back up then moving to the front all right? Picking up another pair of jack stands isn't a big deal but they take up trunk space that's slowly getting eaten away so if I can do this with two stands, great!
Cheers,
Paul

...so the $280 question is: Do I ever brake lightly enough to have the Ferodo's squeal?
Reference point: I smoked through a set of EBC Green's in about 7k miles. Am I hard on brakes? I'm gonna guess the answer is Yes.

Put mine on last night. Drove around last night for a while with lots of hard stops. Didn't notice the squeal then but did today. Just under very very light braking. I only have fronts so I'll try some of the suggestions made to eliminate the squeal there.

Eek. I was thinking about the Randy Webb brake upgrade for the future, but threre's no way the wife is going to tolerate squeal-y brakes. On a similar note, my JEEP Cherokee has squealing brakes every morning. I just drag the brakes for about 30 yards and that always cleans 'em up for the rest of the day!

It is not a loud squeal my any means. Very very faint and only when lightly pressed and moving very slowly. Like just before you come to a complete stop.
The pads feel good. I wouldn't let that little squeal scare you off. I haven't tried anything to eliminate it either. Track weekend this weekend might do the trick.

Same here on squealing. 3000 front 2500 rear. Had them at a hard track day, the day after putting them on. I don't know if that hurt or helped.
Good news: They brake great and have less dust.
Bad news: I have quite a bit of squeal.
However, another way to look at the squeal is that others cars are very aware that I am nearby and braking. Additionally, it draws even more attention to my MINI.
