Has anyone re-programmed to eliminate this "feature" ?
I don't mind the auto lock once I start moving...seems safer at a stop light, but would like to eliminate the option for someone to damage a door handle when it does not open on one pull.
so; If you de-program the "rolling feature" you can have a one-pull opening?
yes as long as the doors are programmed to stay unlocked. Once the doors are locked, they will require two pulls to open unless you use the power unlock button and then open the doors. As someone previously stated, this is a mechanical design/function and is not something that can be electronically programmed.
if you're door is already unlocked, its just one pull to get out.
deactivate autolock when rolling and your problem is solved.
...or you can get in the habit of hitting the "central unlock" button in the center of the lower dash toggle bank as you stop the car (which automatically unlocks everything, including the barn doors). This seems to work best for me, as I prefer the "auto lock on start-up" for safety. Without doing so, I invariably get around to the rear of the car (without my key fob) only to find the split tailgate locked.

I have to make such a incredible effort to tell every one of my passengers that they need to PULL IT TWICE to get out right when we stop. I remember one of my friends dad was pulling it really hard and said "oh your car is broke, I can't get it out". I told him pull it again and without releasing it he pulled it even harder! I thought for sure he was going to hit me in the face with my door handle, but it didn't break. My passenger side handle sticks out a little bit because of this.
Does the Clubman have the option to have the doors unlock when the key is removed? I have the on my R53 and I only have to pull the handle once because the door is unlocked.
I agree its a BMW thing. If you have it set up to "Auto Lock" an "Auto Unlock" feature/option when you turn the car off would be nice. My Audi did it, and I only needed the double pull if I was dropping someone off and didn't turn the car off. I am getting used to it, but it is a programming thing that would have seemed easy to do. When I found out about my friends BMW 550 having the same feature, I stopped trying to look for a way to fix it and just accepted it.

I really need to get in that habit...I just haven't quite adapted. In my case, it's my husband who ends up standing behind the split barn doors unable to open them while I'm still futzing in the car .
Also if you noticed when you shut your door the window is down and goes up into the locking position when shut. So if it is locked and it opened on 1 pull the Window would be caught in the locking groove up top.

How is the R53 feature you described above activated? That's a much better alternative than just having the unlock feature permanently programmed.

Not really, the window goes down after the second pull or if the door is already unlocked it goes down when you pull the handle that one time.
That's not a unique "feature" with MINI...... BMW does it, so did my Porsche and my wife's Audi does it
In fact i t is not unique to German or European vehicle either, 1999 Dodge 1500 Pick Up, a 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon, 1987 Nissan Pathfinder all did it if the door was locked.
