Agreed on a price and should have the car in my garage on sunday... need advice

Ok everyone, I've come to an agreement with a local seller and have agreed to purchase his mini and will be picking it up on sunday. I've been reading up on people "re-vining" the car so i would like to get your expertise as to what year my mini is, as well as what kind of engine it has. All I know is that it has a 1275 cc engine, dual carbs. I know I'll be needing new parts so if anyone can direct me on more specifics of the engine, that is much appreciated. Also, I'd like to buy a manual and I see that there's a Haynes manual as well as a reprint of the actual shop manual. Which do you prefer and recommend I purchase?
Here are the pics of the car (Please excuse the bad lighting)

Anyone know waht kind of clutch this is? I hear all this talk about a pre-verto but not sure what that means

Will post more pics when it's in my garage thank you all in advance for the help

Edwin

Congratulations on your purchase. Have a look at the windshield wiper motor and the boot latch (the part on the lid). There should be some numbers that correspond to the year they were produced. You can almost assume that is the build year of the car if the numbers are consistent. Check out Mini Mania's guide on how to ID your Mini. It's the best way to get the "Mark" or generation of the car so you can confidently order parts. Good luck!

Get this book - The Complete Classic Mini by Chris Rees:

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Class...1546172&sr=8-1

Not only is it a fun read, but it lists EVERY Mini model made, along with all the international versions (Innocenti, etc.) along with the small things that made each model unique. You'll learn a ton about your car and where it fits in to the history of the Mini.

Thank you for the help. Once I get the car in, I'll look more closely at the noted points

Thanks for the link. I have been reading up on your posts about your search and ultimate purchase of Fiona. Congrats! Which manual do you recommend for changing out the mechanics of stuff (slave cylinder, suspension, etc).

Best overall manual is the Haynes Service Manual (aka: the Haynes Book of Lies). It helps to supplement with web searches here, on MiniMania and on UK sites like TheMiniForum.co.uk though, since the Haynes book is not always 100% accurate or clear.

And yes, that front lip was NOT a Mini peice.... I'm a fan of the 13" deep-dish wheels and the Sportpack arches, but not the muscle car chin personally...
