I installed a 443 style 17" supertrapp on my 2003 mcs and am running 8 disks.

[edit - the engine is stock except for a no effect uni drop in filter]

I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but this setup seems to pull most strongly at mid rpms (2000 to 5000) and seems to fall off above 5500 to 6000. the relative fall off seems greater than the relative falloff of the stock muffler

it's a nice gold color.

Do any of you other supertrappers have seat of the pants observations or dyno charts on the shape of the power curve?

thanks, flyboy 2160

[i'll post pictures later today]

I'll be taking out the battery box and using a straight pipe with a SuperTrapp as a Fall/Winter project. I think I will put a Moroso Spiral Flow b4 the SuperTrapp though per the advice of a respected board member (here and MINI2). Check with the Racing forum on MINI2 as you can see Garfield there. He is one of the "pioneers" with the SuperTrapp... dynos and all!!! I believe 8 or 10 was his choice...

Good luck.

Garfield co-drives my S in STX this year. I have 12 discs in mine - but, have an intake and header as well. 12 discs is loud. The neighbors all know when I come home late. Brian, on his stock S, runs 8 discs. Brian had both my car and his car dyno'd before deciding on these numbers

We were looking for mid range grunt and have it. I don't notice a drop off at all in the hi range - until I hit the rev limiter

Play with the number of discs and test the butt dyno. Also, make sure you didn't install the discs backwards (I did the first time)

SuperTrapp has a 24" long unit (4" discs) that should be a little more quiet. That's the one I'm eye-balling. The Moroso Spiral Flow is apparently quite good at drone elimination, and putting that prior to the ST seem like a real winner.

After a few more days of 8 disks and a few with 10 disks, I've a few more butt-o-meter observations.

All of these have "about" with regard to the rpms, since I can't see the tach between 2000 and 5000. all were done with 20% 100 octane mixed into 91 octane.

8 disks are better than stock up to about 5000 rpm, then they hit a wall and drop off so sharply that a stock muffler definitely feels more powerful above 5500-6000 rpm.

10 disks are the slam dunk power winner so far. They don't pull as well as 8 in the mid range up to about 4000, but they pull evenly all the way from 3000 rpm right up to 6500. this even pull feels stronger than stock over that whole range.

The bad news is that both 8 and 10 are way too loud inside the car and whole cabin is droning/resonating to the point of giving me a headache. This probably is exacerbated by my having the rear seats and parcel shelf out. As a stopgap, I have a comforter folded over the floor at the back. I'm considering insulation, active noise cancellation, or adding the moroso spiral muffler to reduce the noise.

I'm amazed at how sensitive the supertapp is to tuning and also have new found respect for how well the stock muffler performs (leaving aside its weight.)

i'd like to see dpayne's and garfield's dyno charts. if you guys don't want to publish them, would you email them to me? thanks.

Just caught up to this thread. I can give you the original Stock to 8 plate Supertrapp dyno sheets if you want, but I don't know how to post them here and can't host them.
The power at the wheels is low, but you can clearly see the 13hp/13lb ft. bump at the wheels from the Supertrapp.
Email me at the address below if you want me to send the sheets to you.

depending on what size and length, 150 bucks, plus or minus... Try Summitracing.com

I could not link to the exact page, but search their catalog using exhaust, muffler, super trapp...

You mean like a honda civic?
I've heard an S that had dual Supertrapps and I wouldn't say it sounds ricey but it was LOUD.
