Wife decided to help me with some bodywork today

Instead of swerving around a piece of steel in the road, she decides to run it over. So now I have a bent "A" panel, and the aluminum trim that runs the length of the car is trash. Getting ready to sell the car to boot. I had a chat with her about the heighth of the car and how she needs to drive defensively, etc. Seriously if the metal had been a little more inboard, it could have gone through her foot. According to her it looked like part of a frying pan? I am glad shes ok, I just wish she would pay more attention. About a year ago, she sideswiped the MCS that we had just bought, hadnt even made the first payment on it yet on a jersey barrier coming on base. Left a nice crease on the door. Said she didnt realize the size of the car, that she was used to driving british spec cars, etc. So do I get her a bicycle or a pair of roller skates?

Plkdb,

Ouch... So, I understand she's used to RHD cars, so I could give her a tiny bit of slack for the MCS incident (but really... MCS's aren't exactly SUVs )

As for attempting to stradle a "frying pan" size of metal in a classic... sheesh, she's dead even with what I'd expect from my wife, whom I refer to as "Dream." She loves that nickname, even after my explaining that it really means "You're a space head... just focus on this planet while in motion!"

Just yesterday while driving my MCS on a busy trafficway (pinned in on both sides) I had to run over a 4x4x30ish" piece of styrofoam. Crap... even styrofoam gives you a pretty nasty "bump in the road" to crush/crash/slog/launch through. Believe me, I would have darted around it but couldn't. Nor could I hit the brakes w/out becoming a hood ornament. Thankfully it was not a 4x4 piece of wood.

Go easy on your wife, she's probably already feeling the pain enough.

She had been driving a uk spec bmw 3 series for about 2 years, prior to that, it was 5-6 years of US spec vehicles. The kicker is she told me after we buy a house when we get back to the states, she wants a bmw x3 or x5 sure thing sweetie. I'll get right on that. You cant handle a 20k dollar car, let alone a 3k dollar car, but you want me to get you a 40k car. Am I missing something?

I think I'd be coaxing her towards the Honda Element. They're indestructable, reliable, cheap and IMO, just as cool as a bmw suv-lite.
