Have a look in the Classic Mini Talk forum. There are lots of pics.
If you're looking at a Mini, your best bet is to post some pics of it and let the enthusiasts tell you stuff about it.

Here's another question.

How much potential do the classic mini's (say - 1970s), have for boosting?

do you see a classic mini ripping up 200HP?, clocking 140mph?

Identify your Mini

Try this: http://www.minimania.com/subteaser.cfm

Pick up a few back issues of MiniWorld and see some radical Mini upgrades

http://www.miniworld.co.uk/

There's only so far you can go with a 1275 block .... but if you re-engine.....a guy locally is putting the engine from a 300 Z in a Mini shell...

If you want a big engine in a Mini shell, you can do pretty much anything you want. I have personally seen a Mini with a 454 engine sitting where the back seat used to be. Turned it round and had it driving the front wheels. The owner was absolutely insane IMO.
I have also seen Minis turned into drag cars. I have a pic (not electronic and not filed) somewhere of a Mini with a big V8 under the bonnet. There is a cutout in the windscreen for the shaker style ram scoop intake.

If you are willing to weld lots and risk your life driving it, you can squeeze just about any engine into almost any car body. Doesn't make it a good idea though.

If you really want that kind of hp in a Mini, there are guys selling kits to put a Honda v-tec motor into a Mini. Scary fast, but the engineering has already been done.

oh my goodness! lol. Yeah, that is an overkill - I dont think the physics of a setup like that would be diserable either!

WTF!

So - cant this be acheived through boosting a MINI engine?
Heck an A class even?. Or, if not, another, more recent mini engine?

TRuth is, I was hoping to use a A-spec. But if not, DEFINATLY something generic.
Whats the sickest running A-spec you've heard about?

There are date codes on the wiper motor and the inside part of the boot latch. 140 MPH, yes if you have the money. A full race power plant is about 25K.

Drag car! wow. I always saw minis as.. more the car that had its advantage on any track with cornering you know - hence their success with rally.
The physics of the car's body is to thank of course.

hrm. I have no intention of getting another engine really. Maybe a BIGGER mini engine, but definatly something generic, that will fit with MILD mods at most.

In your estimation is it possible to get say an A-spec Engine. Really boosted, going say 130MPH?
(I saw this clip of this 408HP mini once. From what you're saying, I guess its safe to conclude that was another engine! - non mini... :\)

Good Point! Of course then it depends on how much has been changed; but I did add 'confidence points' in my mind when the stamped dates on these two parts agreed with my documented build year but on the other hand my 79 has MK1 grill and tail lites and runs on 10" wheels. Not original, and I don't try to pass it as such. "very modified"

If you'd like me to post pics of the date stamps, so ya know where to look, just ask....I'll take and hang 'em if desired

Yes please do - would love that ^_^ (c'mon mods - approve my other posts! :p)

Come march, if he still has it! - I'm gonna buy this mini.

And though it needs work - I'm going to turn it into as beauty.
Why I want to find out this model though - is because YOU GUYS are da pro's, and call tell me how to beef up the engine!

What I really want to get handled though, is the interior. NAmely I want NICE seats, good AC (IF THE DARN CAR HAS IT! ) AND, perhaps most importantly...

ARM rests on the DOORS.
(mod possible?)

155 IS GOOD!

What Engine did you have under the hood? (please say A-spec :p).
If so - TEll me about what that HONDA wreaked! ^_^

I got the camera Today from a friend. With brand new batteries.
Plopped em in, ready to go - but when we tried....

LOW BATTERY!!!??
WTFark!?

anywho. I'll get them up soon.

I bet even you guys may have probs identifying it - because the areas right around the wheels are modified. (looks simmilar to yours though!)

But - Im STILL eager to hear.

Whats the Stinkest Boosted mini (with an A-spec) that you've heard about? :D

--edit--
O my GOODNESS Xanthus! Your GUAGES!!!!!

*DREWWWL*

dude! I am absolutly DROWNING myself in EVERY SINGLE PAGE of your log lul.
I missed one thing though - is this a b16? -
-edit--
ah, Yes. Hmmmm....

So tell me, after it is that you drop an engine like THAT into her,... HOW MUCH SPACE is there for anything else! :|
I mean - could you drop a heavy turbo with a good sized intercooler into it?
(me doubts? :|)

BUT OHHH MY GOOODNESS.

?Have you guys checked out how sweet this job was? - man, thats awsome.

You make me want to hunt down a B16 lol.

I wonder if the average, EXPERIENCED mechanic can, with the kits, drop in a b16.
TEll me Xanthus. How much did the job, to the extent where you had the bare engine running outside Cost?

Oh boy, I just went over all the #s for money put into her for hagerty... Um a bunch...

Price up the kit from www.superfastminis.com and look for a B16b motor from a type R car so you get the LSD already in it.

It's like this. I am asking $35K as a starting price. After going over the numbers I have worked so hard to try to forget in getting her where she is I have found myslef satisfied with my starting price.

I recommend going through a shop that has done one before. You will save some time in labor on the front as well as some repairs on the back end that are from things that those who have gone there before know to avoid doing. I recently had to replace and relocate my idle control valve. That was not cheap.

The fiberglass front is 4" longre to accomodate the motor. I'd look to www.frankenminis.com for any future Mini fiberglass parts. It is the one thing (and the hinges) that I was really not happy with from Minitec. The rest of their products were fantastic.

Thank you bud!

I am settled with sitting on her unless someone wants her enough to pay what I ask.

Now that I have the Cobra if I do sell the Mini I will replace her with a standard 1275 motored Mini.

HOw MUCH... not cheap!?

Anywho - nah, no shop. I have a bunch of mechanic friends! (aint I lucky)
And there's ONE in particular, he's a dam veteran, the best this side undoubtadly. He's so versatile, over the years he gained himself the name "macgyver" ^_^.
As a friend though, he related to me how, over the years... FRIENDS, would just, ask him to boost a car, and when the car was SERIOUSLY tricked out - they'd just take.. paying him casually. SO, now that I have some potential work for him - I want to pay up front (he's a good guy really).

oooohhh man!
Are you telling me that the b16 cant fit normally!?

IT will be CRAZY expensive to not only BUY the parts, but to SHIP THEM to Jamaica!

Fiberglass! - I wish!

BTW - THIS MINI, has a sunroof.... (lots of classics with those? :|)

Thanks for all the responses though people ^_^
I get the air these old mini's arent exactly whats HOT! :D

On a slightly different topic though..
One of the things I'm going to REALLY work on when I get her, is.... the INTERIOR.

Sure, I want nice carpeting, COMFY SEATS. BUT

Is it possible, to .. mod the inside of the door? such that - you have a small, soft arm rest that MOST modern cars do?

Just anything relatively close to the above - to make sure I'm understood. Just an arm rest!

The Mini isn't wide enough for an armrest (41/2') unless you found/made something that's only 2-3" wide. Then you'll have to work around the window mechanisms/door lock/latches. Do-able, but likely a PITA that will result in something you won't like when finished...imho Install a center armrest and be happy (ier) There are paterns online to make them yourself.

http://www.minifinity.com/modules.ph...ku&id=interior

As far as Honda conversion, well, figure $20K and at least a year to do it correctly. Better to buy one done.

Here's what came in the Mini:

If armrests were a concern, maybe a Mk1 with padded tops on the door bins? I've seen the padded tops, but I don't know if the geometry allows them to double as armrests, unless you have chimp proportions... Wait a minute... armrests--on a classic mini? Wrong concept. A really, really cool classic with armrests, and matching sculptural interior is a vintage T-bird, as pictured in this thread. Now that car begs to be driven with one hand on the wheel. One hand on the wheel of a Vtec mini will launch you into a ditch, on comming truck, really fast.

There is now a kit to cram in the B16 into the Mini.

http://superfastminis.com/

Ask them for details.

My anticipations... down the drain.

I see it at the lil body shop in the community - no work done yet.

hopefully I can convince the girl he sold it to - to sell it back... :|

(anywho - yeah, I guess there wouldnt be much space for it - should be able to make something for the back passengers though...)
