VTEC Mini

Norman & Benjamin (BJ) at Mini Tec, LLC are building a VTEC Mini for me. So far, so good. They have been very helpful in the set-up "wish-list" process. They are very knowledgable (especially Norman) about the transformation process.

Mine is going to be a B16A (175hp) with lots of tasty bits added: DC Sports 4-2-1 headers, Sparco Modena seats, 5-point harnesses, 12 gallon fuel cell, fully adjustable suspension, etc.

The story I got from norman was that they used to build some cars for gomini, but that they were always different companies.

Good luck and sweet mini dreams

kind regards,

Here's a question.

WHICH do you guys believe would yeild more potential for power/speed.

Using the space available around a stock 1250GT to really suup it up,
OR, Putting in a B16, then using what limited space is left - to try a thing?

I ask, because I'm here thinking - looking at some conversions ...

THERE"S NO SPACE FOR A TURBO AFTER A b16 drop-in!

The most horsepower you'll get with a normally aspirated 1250 is 150 bhp - the least you'll get out with a B16 is 150 bhp. With head work and some other massaging that B16 could yield you ~250 bhp.

I can tell you haven't driven a 150 bhp classic Mini otherwise those numbers would elicit more awe. After that benchmark it's all just excess, fun but excess.

Sort of like Pacino at the end of Scarface with the big mound of that funny white stuff.

Uh, Matt...this was sold to one of the owners of NAM quite a long time ago. It's odd that this thread was dug up recently as the last post was in November 2006!

Just for clarity...
