Give your SubWoofer Specs for R56
Hi guys/gals
Please Post your specs and costs of subwoofer install if anybody got them. Here is what I am planning to get. All the experts out there please advise:
Infinity 12'' Dual Voice Coil Sub
1200W Max power/ 300W
5-1/16'' Depth - $119.99
Kenwood Mono Amplifier with 1000W Max/300W @ 4 Ohm - $189.99
Amp install kit - $105.99
Alta Subwoofer Box - ???
Install at Bestbuy - $70.00
Do you think that is too much to pay for those?
Thanks for your feedback

The amp processes the flat signal, adjusts for the volume **** position and sends a speaker signal to various speakers.
Some say to use the front door speaker signal, apparently it has a full range signal. Some say to use the rear speaker because the rear speakers are larger and people would expect those to have a fuller range signal.
Once you tap into the signal, you need to split it so that the sub and the speakers don't overlap and interfere?
I doubt that the Best Buy people have signal analyzers and can understand the situation.

I disagree with this. Simply not true.
Please read the sticky in the (edit: 2nd generation) audio forum regarding replacing your speakers. All the answers are in there.

I meant for the HK (HiFi option) system and corrected my post.

me too. The HiFi doesn't work the way you described it. If it did I wouldn't be able to change the volume on my highly modified HiFi system.

Was that pre-2007 then? I didn't know it changed?

From a sticky in the audio section:
The important thing to understand is that when the stock HU is driving the HK amp, it sends (only) two speaker level signals which are AT A FIXED LEVEL.
That is, the front left/right speaker output signals go to the HK amp, but as if the HU volume is always at max.
Separately the HU tells the HK amp what the current volume is, as well as fade, balance, bass, treble, etc. All this via the MINIs iBus.
The HK amp then digitizes the speaker signal coming in, manipulates it according to the iBus data from the HU and according the algorithms which match the speakers and car acoustics, then it sends signals out to each of the speakers.
So if you want to keep the stock HU ...
You can't get RCA signals anywhere.
You can't pick up the signals BEFORE the HK amp because they won't vary with volume.
You can only pick up speaker level signals AFTER the HK amp - and you will be affected by whatever manipulations the HK amp does to the signals. For example I expect it will implement a low pass filter to protect the speakers from too low bass; this means your subs would never be able to get the low signals you want.

That is the old Harmon Kardon system. Not the new HiFi system. Perhaps I should have specified 2nd generation audio forum.
Please read this entire thread:

It is an outstanding source of information and should answer any question you could have about upgrading the 07+ stereo systems.

The audio system in the R56 is not the HK system of previous years. I don't know what it sends where, but the rear speakers get very little bass. All the bass seems to go to the larger of the two door speakers.
My subwoofers: Infinity Kappa 60.7cs 6-1/2" component speakers in the doors.
