Time to start the buying process.

I graduate UD in 3 weeks, finish classes anyway graduate in jan. I need my own car as I don't have one, and I want a Mini.

I just e-mailed Ottos Mini with the question, will a left over 07' be sold with a discount now that the 08's are in production. If I can grab a higher spec-ed 07' for a similar price as an 08' I might go that route.

What do you think NAM?

When I ordered my car, I tried to pull that card with the '06s that were still on the lot. The MA basically told me that I will pay what is on the sticker... good luck, hope you have a different experience than I did.

Mini has some college grad program on their site. Doesn't have many details, but it may help some.

You *might* get a few hundred dollars off if you choose a car on the lot and the dealer has motivation to move them.

But since most of the MINI's are custom ordered, dealers dont' have much of a problem moving cars on the lot like most car dealers do when the new models come.

At Otto's especially you should be able to get a pretty good discount. I ordered my first MINI from them and got it for $300 off MSRP. My second one I bought off the lot less than a month later (long story) and got it for $750 off plus over $250 in accessories. Both 2007's.

So basically you should be able to get a better deal on the '07 over the '08 not because one is newer than the other, but rather because you can pick a '07 off the lot while the '08 you'll most likely have to custom order.

Best of luck on your decision. You definitely picked a good dealership.

If nothing else, point out that MINI of the Hamptons is offering a free Nav System (the rebadged Garmin one) with all new MINIs. Maybe they can match that deal or offer you something similar.

Ditto to the good dealership! I think if they still have one on the lot that you like you will get a deal. Good Luck! For me the ability to spec out and follow the production of both our MINI's was a great part of the MINI experience and to me it is worth a couple of extra bucks!

emailed ottos about a discount and the response wasn't great. Including the $500 discount I get for being a return customer (bro bought an r53) they will save me between 500 and 700. So basically there is at most $200 they will save me for buying an EOY from the lot as opposed to ordering an 08.

Look, when I traded my 03 in for an 07 I got almost 70% of the value of the car from 03. There are few cars that hold their value this well. So, you get the benefit of a high resale value. Check Edmunds with against an 03 GTI to see the difference. Grin and bear it over the MSRP or find a car that is heavily discounted. This is a reflection of supply and demand.

68% after 4 years is just unbelieveable. A good reason to trade up if the 2012 models are quad-scroll-twin-turbo.
