Did Anyone Fix a Subwoofer in Their MINI?
Hi Guys, did any of you got a sub-woofer in your car? I mean after market not premium audio pkg. Does it void warranty? and how much does it cost? can we do it ourselves?

I saw a thread on here that Alta will be selling a really nice looking box for the boot area. I am thinking about getting one from them. I think it said the box would hold either a 10" or a 12" sub.
Hi thanks for the reply. Are you going to fix it your self? or are you going to hire somebody to do it? I heard Best Buy does it for a flat rate if we buy the sub from them. is that true?

umm...It's not something that I would attempt myself, just because I know nothing about that sort of thing, so I will probably take it somewhere to have it installed. Best Buy will probably be where I end up buying the sub and amp, so if they do it for a flat fee, that would be great. Look up in the 2007 cooper S threads...for a thread named "howard gets booming". The Alta box looks awesome! It sits flush with the floor behind the rear seats...almost looks like it came that way. I think you have to call about that box though...haven't seen it on their site yet as it is fairly new for them. Let me know how your's turns out if you get it done before me!

Thanks for the info. You let me know if you get it done. Thanks again. Nice cooper by the way... I am also thinking about getting the center Shelby stripes for mine.

Hey..no problem! I'm not sure if I told you the correct place to look, but I do know that the thread is "howard gets booming" and it's somewhere in the 2007 section..lol Now all I have to do is decide on what kind of sub to buy.....

I built my box out of MDF and used a Kicker Comp 12in CVT. This is a very shallow mount sub, it mounts in 4.9 inches depth. I use a line level converter from crutchfield from the rear 6x9s to power amp. It hits hard, very hard and its a single sub, sealed I still have a trunk too. Pics to follow this weekend

This is what I plan on doing. All you have to do is tap into the existing speakers, Run some power wires and start pounding along... In Canada they're about $250

MotorMouth may have a different reason, but strangely enough (especially since the rears are larger) the fronts get just about all bass (low frequencies which you obviously want for a sub) from the stock head unit/amp.
bingo. Someone did a freq scan and found the back speakers don't get full range bass for some wierd reason.
We upgraded the sound system ourselves and put a Diamond Audio D3 Series 10 inch Subwoofer in the boot. My husband custom built the sub box and put a Mini symbol right where the sub speaker is. He also made it to where I have two little storage compartments on either side of the sub box. On one side, he cut down the styrofoam on the tool kit so it would fit in the compartment. On the other side, I have the boot storage nets.
It actually came out really cool looking. It lines up flush with the boot lip and it's almost completely flat when you fold the seats down.
We also upgraded the speakers to Diamond products as well. The entire upgrade cost approximately $1,000 to $1,200 to do. We're really happy with the Diamond audio product line and this system sounds great in my Mini too!
I took some new photos of it in direct sunlight so you can really see the detail on the sub box.

We just wouldn't have felt right if we ordered all the stuff off the internet and then went to ask him for advice/help on how to install it. This way, we at least purchased everything from him.
I believe Alta is currently working on a similar sub box that might be available soon so you might want to check with them on that. If you click on my "A Mini Story" link in my signature, there's a little write up about the audio upgrade we did as well as a few more pictures.
Thanks,
Celia
