Drivetrain Atlanta Group Pulley Install
It's last minute, but I spoke w/Randy today and it he has the weekend of July 26-27 open to do a group pulley install after all.
I know of a couple of people personally, but I need to find out if there's enough interest to support a trip down here on such short notice.
It will follow the established pattern and he'll be available to install pulleys as well as ECU upgrades. If you're interested please post here or PM me and let me know if you're interested and if you can make the date.
We can use help with logistics and facilities as well at this point so if you're willing to offer I'd appreciate it. If enough people are interested but can't make the date we'll try & schedule an alternate in late November (I promise not to encroach on Phoenix's schedule
)

Thanks for the help Jeff. It will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday if we have enough people.
I would think with Braselton right down the road, there would be at least ten folks willing at this point.
We now have it down to a science, after doing 100+ installs. The record install time (not that I was trying to set a speed record) is 39 minutes
.
Here would be the schedule (pronounced shhhedule):
Friday
8:00
Kent
9:30
Marty T. ECU
11:00

3:30
Sunday

12:30
2:00
3:30
ECU and intakes are also available. BMP, Pipercross, Alta and Madness/Rogue intakes will have to be ordered prior to the event (available of course through MINI-Motorsport ).
I will coordinate through Jeff, but feel free to call directly if you have any questions or would like to schedule a time. I will need to confirm at least ten before we are a go for sure.
The costs are as follows:
Pulley and installation $400
Alta intake w/o silicone tube $199
Madness intake $239
BMP intake $169
ECU $699
Uncontrollable smile on your face - priceless

OMG, you dont know how bad I want this, but I am going to be on vacation, can'nt get out, already paid money.
Crap!
I had been saving for an exhaust first, looking at the supersprint, and then I was going to start saving for a Randy special but figured it would be a year or so before I could get the chance to let Randy work his MoJo on DMonk.
I wish I could guys I really do. but with vacation(Got to do the family thing) and the cost associated I just dont think it will happen for me this time
I hope it works out, looks like I may have to go to Randy where ever he happens to be when all my ducks get in a row.
Thanks, again Kent
As a side note, November may be much more workable for me

I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY going to try. I'd be coming from Hilton Head. If my wife finds out, she's going to kick my butt, though. I'm interested in the Fall event as well if this doesn't work out.

Randy, definitely interested in the install, but my car won't be in until September. If this doesn't show enough participation, maybe you could reschedule toward the end of September? I certainly don't mind the 2.5 hour drive to Atlanta.
Randy,
This is exciting!
I live in Punta Gorda, FL and was even trying to get to the Dallas install.
But the work schedule killed that idea!
Now, Atlanta! Yippee! 560 miles of fun motoring for a pulley install.
I'll make that drive in a minute!
So please count me in!! My work schedule is finally cooperating.
If I have a choice I'd like to get the July 25th, 9:30 AM Friday morning slot.
I hope that time works out OK for the e-mail of the ECU mode to/from Germany.
Please let me know if that works out OK.
I'll be in touch by phone too, as I have a couple of ECU mod questions.
Many thanks in advance,
Marty

OK, so it looks like we might be halfway there. Just because this one works out doesn't mean there can't be an encore - but it would be past September as my wife is due with our girl on September 1 (we have three boys now).
The list looks like:

Mcooper
LifeIsGood
Wesport
Yfoiler
Keep it up! Just five more and we could make it a weekend.

July 26th is my birthday. Hmmm.
If I have the issues with my car worked out, I'm a maybe. I don't want to put the pulley on while I'm still having warranty work done.
Any plans for a Charlotte, NC area pulley party?
See ya,
JS

Very nice! A good response for a day. I've posted locally as well and we'll see what interest that turns up (Atlanta Minis club.)
For Kent--I'll keep your name on a list if we don't get enough people for this weekend. Sorry you won't make this one. (You could always leave your MINI behind while you're on vacation. We'll take care of it

My main concern, and maybe randy can answer some and others can give me some input.
1. I dont have an exhaust yet, looking at supersprint, but costs range 800 - 1100, should I have an exhaust before the pulley/ecu ( I do not want to do one with out the other). I have the money to do exhaust or pulley/ecu but not both. Help!

If Randy tells me I dont need the exhaust before the pulley/ecu and the dealerships in Atlanta are not jearks / I.E. no bad reports, then I will be looking for an early Fri morning so I can get pulley/ecu and bolt.

You don't need the exhaust to do the pulley. From what Randy tells me, a significant number of people have done the pulley as their first modification. You can definitely do the exhaust later.
Thanks Dave, I was wondering what Randy would tell me the diff. would be, I did not know if I needed the exhaust for the ecu or not, I know the stock on I have is way to heavy and restrective, I was looking to get it fixed first and then start saving for the pulley/ecu, I did not know what my total HP would be ( aprox.) I have a BMP racing intake combined with the pulley/ecu then I can see how far over 200 the exhaust would push me. the warrenty issue is always in the back of my mind that wy i wanted to hear from other Atlanta mini owners about having work done by the dealership even if they had mods on their car's. I have heard some dealers are easyer on this than others, and after spending a pretty penny for the car, and adding more stuff I did not want to be stuck paying for warrenty work because a dealership wont touch the car. hope everyone understands.
Hope randy is checking the boards and see's this. and other Atl. mini owners also. thanks.

Darxar,
I agree with Dave. I have done the pulley?ECU as a first mod on more than 20 cars, and while the performance increases with better breathing, it shouldn't impede your decision.
You will be looking at a combined gain of 25 horsepower with no other mods - a pretty healthy increase. The intake and exhaust will put you just over the 200 bhp mark - usually a dyno plot of 180 wheel horsepower or so.
You are right in the dealers being different from one to the next. I've had a ton of warranty work done on my car - and none of it couold have been debated by any dealer. I have had the rear latch replaced, the coolant tank replaced (I'm on my fourth), the circuit board in the engine compartment replaced, and the windshield trim replaced all under warranty. If you saw the engine compartment, a normal MINI tech wouldn't even know it's a MINI, and I haven't heard word one from the dealer in regard to not working on it. I also have had my 10,000 mile service done without a mention of all the mods (except for how cool they are).
What I do as a quasi-warranty is provide all parts not covered under the normal warranty period at cost, and labor is free (although that doesn't help you all that much in Atlanta). I have done over 100 pulley changes and have yet to have a problem - quick someone knock on wood!
Feel free to contact me if you would like to ask any other specific questions.

I have not had any problems with Global - other than the fact they can't fix the stumble. I have discussed mods with the service rep. They seem OK with them, but it has not come up yet as I had none then. Do now
. They did say that the Supercharger itself would not be covered after a pulley swap. This seems fair enough and does not discurage me. They said they have seen many cars with intake mods and have had no problem with those.
I am going ahead with the pulley myself. Still thinking about the ECU. I now have QS exaust, Alta drop in, Big Alta rear bar.

Ok guys, I sent Randy a PM and I am taking the 8am Friday morning slot. Thanks Wes, and if anyone else has any comments about the local dealerships I would greatly like to hear them, PM me so we dont clutter this post any more than it already is.
I am so excited, I am expecting my car to rocket, I hope it does, with just the BMP instake/pulley/ecu with the stock exhaust. we will see.
thanks guys, Kent

Hey Kent,
Looks like we'll get to meet in the AM Friday.
I reserved the 9:30 AM slot on Friday morning.
I'm driving in from Punta Gorda, FL.
That's about 560 miles of fun motoring right up good ol' Interstate 75.
(no snowbirds in the way this time of year!).
Now all we need is five more MINIs to make it official!
I'll try to spread the word down here, but I don't know if anyone is crazy enough like me to drive the miles...

OK, so we are up to six - and I've started updating the schedule.
I have confirmed Marty, Wes and Glenn, with Kent probably being confirmed tomorrow. Here was the original list:
friedduck
Mcooper
LifeIsGood
Wesport
Yfoiler
and now Darxar
I only need Mcooper and Lifeisgood to confirm. That would bring us to 6 - only four left! Has anyone found anything about a shop yet? I was actually thinking (and talking with someone) about negotiating with RSpeed. I know they are a great and dedicated MINI shop in the area. If the number gets to ten, I'll call Peter.

Randy RSpeed is a great place Peter/Joe are great guys, its like they take a personal interest in your car. I have alot of respect and faith in them, I hope you guys can work out something.
Also Just wanted to make sure that I am doing Pulley and ECU both. Thanks, Kent
