I haven't seen this problem mentioned before, and it's driving me nuts. I want to see if anyone else has encountered the problem, and, if so, if they have found a solution.

Picked up my MCS in late Jan, but did not have occasion to try the guidance portion of the nav system till about 2 months ago. I had a destination in an unfamiliar part of town, so I input the address into the guidance portion of the nav system. Well, it took me to my destination slick as you please. The system even congratulated me with "You have arrived" (!) When I left for home, I noticed the nav system kept drawing routes back to the destination I had originally entered. I used the "terminate guidance" function that comes up when you press "the button" while in the map view, and "delete destination" from the menu mode. Neither one worked. And, I am still plagued with this to this day. I can put in a new destination, and the system will accept it, but I cannot turn off the guidance function!!!!!!!!!! So, I live on a daily basis with the nav system merrily drawing new routes back to the last programmed destination.

I just got my MCS back after 2 weeks in the MINI shop trying to figure out this problem. After working with it for several days, they gave up and called MINI. Guess what they were told - "It's supposed to work that way."

Sorry, but I do not accept that explanation. This is a fault, not a "feature." The "route drawing" was never there until the first time I entered a destination, and the nav system manual instructs the owner to use either "terminate guidance" or "delete destination" to erase the last entered destination (and I have tried both countless times - no luck).

So, before I get into telephone call/letter writing mode to pester the MINI folks, I wondered if anyone else has encountered a similar problem. Incidentally, the folks at my local MINI dealer state they checked other nav systems on several other cars and that they all work that way!!!!! I find that hard to believe. Lastly, they upgraded me to the latest nav software (darn, now there is an initial "caution" screen that was never there before, and I lost the babe with the British accent!!) without any improvement in the problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions??

Thanks
John

"it's not a bug, it's a feature"

Yes, I have that too. I usually have my 'last destination' set to my home. So no matter where I go I know how to get back. It does not "say" anything but the white line continuously redraws how to get home.

I don't mind it, and If I know where I am, I now put it on the OBC screen and watch the temp and range.

I have the Nav on my '03 MCS, and even with the latest software (3-61). I still have the British voice and no caution screen, and it happily recalculates the route to my last destination with white lines. My solution to the 'white line fever' was to store my home address as a destination and set it as the current destination when I am not actually using the Nav. I still get the white highlights, but I find it less annoying because it will be constantly pointing my way home. I find that more helpful when just out motoring with no particular place to go, or when I am in familiar areas.

It is more or less a fault with the system, and yes, they do all work that way.

Doesn't anyone think anymore?

vespa, you've been posting some really cool emoticons lately. They're way cooler than the ones I've been using.

There is nothing wrong with your NAV system. They all do that.

I have a March 2003 built MCS with DVD based navigation. I have a non-British accent female voice, no warning screen on start-up and when I reach my destination or turn off the car the navigation goes back to just the map display on its next start-up. If the vehicle was shut down I must ask the navigation to resume its guidance to the un-arrived as of yet destination.

Simple fix -- on the same panel where you select destination, go to SELECT COUNTRY. Hit that and select USA (or whatever). Then scroll down to select MAP.

Voila! -- No more white cookie trails!

thanks for the tip, but no go on my Chili/Chile MCS.

Any other suggestions out there. Some of you seem to have adapted to this "feature" - I am not ready to give in yet.

Anyone out there know which fuse is for the nav system? I would like to try pulling the fuse and see if it resets the system. Believe it or not, I have been asking my dealer this question for 2 months and still no answer. I tried to figure it out myself, but the icons used on the diagram in the owner's manual are too cryptic.

The country, city, or anything will work to reset the system. technically you would be in the middle of entering a new destination so the system has nothing to guide you too.

i like most people have my default destination set to Home though ...

Bear,

It sounds like the "Groundhog Day" feature, you'll continually relive the final destination route until you get it right. Maybe if you just marry Ms. MacDowell things would change for the better.

The irony here is that I was born on Groundhog Day!

I am gonna try inputting the country again, see if it works.

So i'm a little confused now. After calling NavTech i'm told that the CD and the DVD that came with my mini (purchased 6/28/03) are the most current version and i should only need to use the DVD. However it's got an American English voice and the annoying Warning. But you say that yours has no warning and and a British accent?

That's not a function of the CD but the options selected in the setup of the NAV system. Those are options that the you as the end user cannot access, it can only be accessed by your dealer. Some dealers know about it and are willing to change it, others either aren't willing or don't know how to.

As for the system redrawing whatever route is displayed in the "input destination" screen whether you want to be directed to it or not. It's not a fault, all MINI Nav systems do it. You could do the country selection thing, but that is it.

>>I have to give Tom(W31W1) all the credit!!! His fix DOES work. I misinterpreted what he wrote, at first, and tried changing the language in the "settings" menu. No help. But, I reread his post and went to the top of the "input destination" menu and clicked on "USA" in the "Country" block at the top of that menu. As he said, that is the fix.

Glad to help -- BTW the user name has no ones in it -- those are "eyes" -- W3IWI is my amateur radio call.

Yeah, and I'm glad I don't have to... What's your point?
