this morning i succesfully connected my iPod through my stereo via the AUX input port, i ran it down through the center console and attached my iPod remote onto the stick shift as seen below... i dont want to have to be fiddiling w/ my iPod so this is my only option for now... any MINI owners have any input on some other options for the iPod... the remote actually works good for now wheni put a certain playlist on and then when i am stopped i can pick up the iPod and switch to different artists, playlists, etc...

so... wat do you guys think? the wires are decent, and do not cause many problems.. (sorry pics r kinda blurry, camera was out of batteries)

Is there any way of mounting the ipod so you can actually see it while you're driving?

How hard was the install overall?

cool, ill have to see that when it comes out, but this is a good solution for now!!
sweet, it sounds super awesome!! i wonder when it will come out, that is exactly what i have been asking about!

as for the install, it was rather simple, just have to find the port behind the stereo and remove knee bolster/euro shelf

mac sells a holster that is similar to a cellphone holder but it goes into the cigarette lighter so there might not be enough clearance on the mini. i usually keep my ipod in the cup holder with the backlight timer always on. you can see great. i use blitzsafe not the mini Aux and i only need one wire. for the remote i usually clip it onto my seatbelt.

cool the seatbelt is a good idea!! as for the backlight, doesnt that kill the battery, i dunno but for some reason my iPod runs out of batteries very very quickly, i might need to return it and get a new one and charge it for 24 hours this time... as for the iPod, is there a way for the iPod to synch w/ ur Music match libraray and delete or update the songs accordinly, because i thought iw as supposed to do this, but i dont see it doing it...

i might have to try the seatbelt idea

You have an '03? I've heard that this won't work with an '02.

Elite any pics of the MINI Aux port itself? I am getting this done next week. I attatch the remote to the e-brake cover, but the seat belt is a great idea.

Gimme a little bit of time. I am in the process of installing the AUX port complete with a ton of pics, including the kit contents and an issue I ran across because I have the NAV system.

I am currently waiting for the damn RAIN to stop.

I successfully added the Aux cable and all I have to do now is mount the jack itself (I am mounting it in my Euro Package Shelf instead of inside the glove box. The cable itself is over 3 feet long and you can put the jack anywhere your heart desires along the dash or console.

you might not like the seatbelt idea cause it gets annoying if you keep getting in and out to unclip it and clip it on again...
i dont know about the backlight timer draining the battery.. i charge my ipod almost every night so i have no idea.
i know you can do this on macs but i have no idea how to do it on windows. on macs when you click on the ipod icon in itunes it gives you the option to update automatically or to manually update.

It's done.

See this thread for all the details and lots of pics.

I just hope the number and size of the pics dont upset some people. Hell, I am stuck with a 28.8!

does anyone know of a case for the iPod2, they only sell them for the iPod1 at best buy.... cuz ive heard the cases allow for mounting in cars and stuff

With the new iPod you can buy an additional base stand. I am going to have this stand hooked up permanently to power and the aux inputs (the stand has a separate ouput jack) so that all I need to do is slip the iPod in and out of this stand.

My next challenge is to find the right spot and method for mounting the stand... the otherwise useless cup holder looks to be about right... though higher up would be a bit more convenient...

Cheers

yup, that is where i have mine!! i moved it and now have it on the stand, i might buy an additional one, so i can have one in my house and in my car... but no one has the car charger for iPod2, just iPod1, so i might have to order that online and do it that way! the remote works great on the shift boot, but if u find a place to mount the stand, please inform me!

Run the iPod until the battery dies, then charge it up for a full 24 hours. This will reset the lithium ion battery's memory. This is also a useful trick for cell phones or any other recharable device that seems to not last as long as it should (if that doesn't work, by all means, return it).
