Tough choice this month, many great shots to spread the odds.

I lean towards Monument Valley, just because it's almost in Arizona.

I've looked at these pics several times now. Can't vote yet. I need to go make a nice tall glass of some mango ice tea and ponder over this for awhile. These are some really great pics.

Love 'em all, but #8 just had me grinning right along with Fido, there!

Some nice pics here. I'm not sure which one to vote for. There was a lot of creativity this month.

Ooooh really great shots everyone, really great. I gotta say though #8 embodies exactly what me & my motoring buddy feel like every time we ride in the MINI

Some great pix, as usual!!! It was difficult to choose between 8 and 10, but I had to go with 8. That look of unadulterated canine joy really spoke to me!

Someone managed to capture the image that came to my mind when I saw the "motoring buddies" topic -- and it was still hard for me to decide how to cast my vote! Great pics this month!

I would have entered if I could have gotten my cat to smile rather than look eternally pissed off. Maybe if I took him for a ride somewhere other than the vet....

I'd really like to know how #10 was done! (I hope it doesn't involve taxidermy!)

Are you sure we don't have the same cat? Mine's becoming more and more like Garfield with age...

The motoring buddies pics were great! Good job everyone.

Any chance now that the contest is over we could get a brief writeup from the photographer of #10 on how they took this photo? It was very cute.

I could not get the materials I needed to do the picture I wanted (another Coopie the Clock keeper shot). The day of the deadline was on me so my daughter and I dicided to update this picture I took of Kona in 2003 with my 1st MINI. This was before Zelda, the small dog came along.

Twenty or thirty minutes before taking the picture inside the house we trained Zelda to retrieve a liver treat off the top of the camera/tripod. While my daughter was working with Zelda I went outside and set up the picture. Kona would not stand on the structure in this shot as she did in the old shot above, even for a treat. I had gone for a very short drive and the engine bay was still to warm for her to be comfortable. At 14 Kona knows that she will get the treat anyway.

With everything in place we placed the dogs at stay then said Ok. My daughter quickly moved back a few steps. It took us three or four trys to get a good set of shots. I took about 20 shots. I then moved in the house and cropped the picture to what you see in the contest (below)

The shot would have been better if I took the newspaper out of the picture. The paper would have been there if I was working on my car so I'm not to upset about that. I would have liked to shoot the picture from a lower angle, about eye level with the Kona, the larger dog but I had to be ready to move if they took off after something.
Some of the other shots can be seen here http://dac.smugmug.com/gallery/2432214#191788267

Thanks for the kind words.
John

John,

I didn't notice the newspaper until you mentioned it.

Thanks for the back story. As soon as my girlfriend and I saw the shot we knew it was special. Great work in executing the composition. That's easily one of the more memorable photos from the past few years of the monthly photo contest.

Best,
Dave

Sorry it was so long, I never seem to miss a chance to say in 10000 words what can be better said in 10.
It was a fun picture to take.

Don't ya dare apologize, that's exactly the sort of write-up that I appreciate and glad you took the time to write it. Besides, when have I ever been short winded?
