Looks like we have homework this month.

This morning's try. Clouds sure help fill the sky. I have an idea to find old stuff or buildings to force the b&w theme.
I got out today and shot a bunch of black&white. Now I have to take it to the photo lab and have it developed! Hopefully there is something I can use for the contest.
Juan, thanks for the additional reading and useful information.
I also checked out Kurt's flicker album and it's obvious he's been holding out on us by not posting lots of other good shots. Really like the classic mini duo in B&W better than the color version Kurt. I like where your headed with the B&W conversions.
Dave B. posted in another thread about channel mixing for B&W conversion which I hadn't heard of. Looks like it has good control over the conversion and is probably simpler that the other instructions I posted previously in this tread. Quick lesson can be found over on the Luminous Landscape site.
I'm still working on expanding the tones. I played with this old photo and converted it to B&W with two Hue/Sat layers. Adjusted levels and focused area with masks. Is this any better Kurt?

The wheel catches my eye.
I'll have to see if my program has those features.
I hope to see a bunch of B&W entries, anything for a subject goes! The classic Minis are a nice break from the same old boring stock MINI. :^)

Headlamp
I am an "Old School" photographer. I have a home darkroom and love shooting B&W and Infrared more than anything.
I'll set up an album soon of the Infrared (I have a few in my gallery of my Beetle)
Maybe someday I'll get a digital but for now I love spending time on my craft.

Kurt,
I like the post processing you did. The second one has a very period appropriate "feel" to it. Both vehicles were very appropriate subject matter for B&W conversion.
Both shots seem to be a little tightly framed up. I gather that may be because of trying to not photograph other cars in the immediate area.
again, nice work on the post processing.

You know how shows are. Besides the tents, garbage cans, porta-potties, etc. messing up the composition, you have people (not swimsuit models either) standing around too. On the Dodge, the camera was vertical and close to avoid the swap meet clutter just behind the car.
I'm stumbling around the PhotoImpact Pro (cheap, but powerful rip of Photoshop), if I would only read the manual!:impatient
question
I uploaded a picture to the August gallery for the B/W contest. I'm guessing it's there but since I can't see the gallery how do I know for sure?
This is my first entry. It can only get better.
Thanks,

Practicing some more color to B&W conversions. All were done with the two Hue/Sat layers and a curves adj layer. Oh, and the rubber stamp to remove distractions that couldn't be moved.
Am I getting closer Kurt?
Apologies in advance to a certain car nut who can't stand cars on grass.
Photos are from the Shallow Alto Concours D'Elegance in June.Beach run anyone?

Classic from Cupertino

Dr. Pork

Hey, these are at least Austins, kinda anyways. My father still has his two AH 3000 (Mk II & III) that I fondly remember riding around in while growing up, but both are anxiously awaiting restoration. These two in the photos however were in exceptional condition.

for anyone else, right after you do your upload check the gallery index and the monthly photo contest gallery should have your username listed as the most recent upload.

Still, you and Speednut Dave are doing a great job with the classic car pics you've been posting.
