New Video, need to get a vacu-cam
New Video, need to get a vacu-cam
We shot this the other day, just playing around Santa Barbara.
First attempt. We used a Single suction pump mount one of the guys had for the Automotive class. Problem is we needed a wide angle. Oh well... Kind of fun any way.
For the Quicktime 6.5 and earlier go here: (10mb sorenson3)

If you happen to have Quicktime 7 this is better quality: (9mb h.264)

Good job! My preference would be to tilt the camera down a bit more--get more of the road off into the distance into the center of the shot rather than so high on the frame---but great job!

I couldn't get it to work with Firefox 1.07 on a Windows PC. I click on the link, and just get an image in the upper left corner of the screen that says "Click to Play".
I was able to "view source" though, and find the targeted file, about to watch it now =)

Haha. Well good job nonetheless. I suppose you actually had your video camera mounted up high? Or were you using a small video camera? I think you could tilt it up just a wee bit higher and still get the front part of the bonnet while lowering the center of the frame.
This would be an example of what I'm talking about
(about half way through video clip)

This one is a bit too low IMO

I thought about the Bonnet but Decided to go for the Sun Roof instead because we were also doing a time lapse direct to the Computer. However we set the Frame rate to slow on the time lapse and olny got about 40 seconds. It was cool, but not post worthy. The nice thing is we could capture both at the same time.
Oh well next time.

I had 3 cameras in that clip--One out the rear window--can see rear wiper, one on the door (wheel shot), and one on the windshield, just behind and below the rear view mirror.
All the cameras were mounted inside the car for protection from the elements. Audio came from either the MC intake via an external mic that was patched to each camera at the mixer level or from the actual cameras themselves.
I'd have to guess that mounting on the Bonnet would be too low.
I was wondering about the speeded up video---didn't realize you shot it as timelapse. I would have shot it in realtime, then sped it up, for more control in post. Regardless, good job! I always like to see what people are doing with their cameras!!

That was from normal video not the Time lapse. We trashed the Time lapse version because there were to few frames to it. But when capturing we captured both at the same time. Camera was capturing Video as we drove, and at the same time the computer was capturing still frames from the camera.
Fun video
I haven't been to SB since I was a kid and even after watching that I can still say I don't remember a damn thing...except for dinner at Sizzler.
I love watching videos from other parts of the country and all the european ones as the roads, traffic, and landscape is so different from one to the next.
I think it would be a cool idea if a bunch of us took some driving around videos just like that and posted them in one thread. What do you think?
