Here are a few that I have taken recently. Was kind of spur of the moment after a midnight shift at work. No tripod, camera was sitting on the ground. Camera is a Sony Alpha NEX-5, shutter was set anywhere from 1.6 -3.2. Let me know what you guys think.
^^^ A tripod and judging by the star trails, the shutter open for less than a minute? I am interested in how you were able to get such great balance between the sky and the interior light.
LOL Yeah it's all in the timing...I really should put that on flickr and post it, it seems horribly compressed now that I see it in the post. 30sec exposure @ f2.8 on a tripod in the pitch black, to get as much details in the stars as I could, holding the remote for the car in my hand, start the exposure and start counting then with about two seconds left, lock the locked car and the dome light kicks on without flashing the tail lights (which I tried unlocking and the orange flash was waaay too direct from this angle and blew the exposure).

I would have guessed some after-the-fact exposure manipulation. Of course a good, dark location helps, and you picked a good one.

Nice shot... I admire the creativity. Only wish I had some of that imagination.
Nice, Pete. I needed salt in the wound... That cop must have thought he hit the jackpot - 2012's were red, 2013's are blue and 2014's are gray (expirations). Mine was red even thought it's ONLY over due by two months.
Nice shot. If you timed it right, you may have gotten the red, yellow and green traffic lights to all be lit. I tried it once, but didn't really have the time to put a stopwatch on it and get it done.

That's my next goal.
Thanks!! We were focused on avoiding the traffic being stopped at the light and over exposing the picture. All traffic lights lit would have been pretty cool too though. Might go for that later at night when there is less traffic, 10pm is a bit busy at that location.
