Phil Wicks at AMVIV?

I'm just wondering who is planning on going to Phill Wick's driving school during AMVIV. Im probably going to sign up, but it would be sweet if a couple others went too

Haven't decided yet. Have until the beginning of March to sign up before the price goes up. I may know by then. Also depends if I get a helmet or not.
I know Tech is also thinking about it.

From the FAQ on the Phil Wicks site:

Q: I have been driving sports and performance cars for quite some time and consider myself better than average. What group should I enter?
A: If you have never had any on-track instruction or it has been a long time since you had on-track experience, you should start in the Performance Driving Basic group. After initial instruction and evaluation by our instructor, you may be permitted to move to the High Performance Advanced group.

Exactly.

Ya. Im doing the basic course. Im a good driver, but this will be my first real track day. I want to get the most out of it, and that includes some good driving theory

I attended the PWDA at Laguna Seca on 12/15/05 as a novice. I too "think I'm a better than average driver" but with no "on track experience", went with the novice class. Had several instructor's for most of the day. With different instructors you get different opinions on braking, lines thru the turns etc. but none the less....very informative. I've signed up for the "Advance" class......still have access to the instructors, but as a group, you tend to go a bit faster and don't bunch up as much due to the limited passing zones. They have helmets for rent....$25 I think.....or possible to borrow one from someone in another class. IMHO it is well worth the price of admission to be able to drive on a track "at speed" and then have to wipe that silly grin off your face. Be prepared for a long day.

What kind of speeds did you do in Novice? I'd hate to have to slow down.

Slow? Isn't that a speed under 3 digits?

I believe your right.

I also believe the trip there, at some point will be at a higher speed than on the track.

What? You don't want to run over me? I'll signup for "Performance Driving Basic" because I haven't actually run on a track. But lead/follow at highway speeds is going to be slow. I'm usually at those speeds on the Hwy 49 twisties.

Im usually at thoes speeds on road 600 twisties :P Im usually in the tripple digits on the back road straights.

BTW Steve: I found a new great road. Its about a 2 hour loop from Oakhurst to Raymond to Mariposa and back to oakhurst with very little highway time. Fun

Plus, you get to drive on these twisties

I've only been on part of Ben Hur Road, but I've heard it is really good. There are some really nice roads out there. Another one is out G Street in Merced to Coulterville. Very rural and lots of twisties.

Well, do you want to have a small meet and do that loop? It would be a nice diversion for a saturday...
