I miss it back then. I was on the CU road cycling team and we use to ride all over the foothills. Now, I don't think I'd really want to be out on a bike in those areas with all the traffic.

I road biked there until the Bike/Car wars started. It got so bad that cyclists were blocking the cars and the cars were running down the cyclists. It lasted about six months before it got sort of safe again. By then, I had excaped to the hills. I've been run over twice in the Bay Area so I try now to only ride the bike paths and the hills.
the only problems that happened while I was there revolved around the Bus Stop ride and the Cycle Logic rides. Basically a lot of guys who thought they were "pros" with a "PRO" attitude riding 4 and 5 wide making a rolling roadblock. That's what prompted issues while I was there.
I mostly went on the university cycling team rides and those were always two abreast at most and had coaching supervision. As a result those rides never had a problem the three years I was on the team (with Tyler Hamilton, though he was actually really good, and I was just cycling as a break from engineering).
