A Big Thanks
Why do you think I haven't left the MidCal forums for six months. The outside world was getting unpleasant.
Steve
Totally joking, totally joking. That was an interesting thread to say the least. Usually it's snarky comments lobbed back-&-forth. In this thread people are lobbing bombs. Cain't we all just geterlong?

Do you want me to take your wheels over to Dave's?
Steve
Good news, only one wheel was somewhat close to being too out of round, but it's still within spec.
There is a little cosmetic damage that I think I can rub out and touch up. What tires are you going to put on them or are you going to take them off your new MINI's wheels?

That is **so** awesome!!! Thanks Dr.Steve! I'm thinking of running the Toyo Proxes R1R in 215/40/17, but it looks like they only make it in a 215/45/17 87W. Here's the specs: Toyo Proxes R1R. Technical specs: http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/30251.pdf. What do you think?
Looks good, otherwise, but I can't find the tread wear rating. I guess when your want performance, you don't need to know.Steve
It's going to rub. I'm running a Potenza 215/45/17 87w that is the exactly the same diameter according to the Tire Rack and the Toyo web site you posted. My Zigens run a 48 off set and when the Bridgestones were new they rubbed on the out side of the rear wheel well when cornering hard. If I had a better off set I'd rub on the inside of the wheel well. Don't know if you are lower and/or your off set is different but I'd bet they'll rub a little. I got tired of all the drama and took a file to the inside plastic lip of the car. Between the tire wearing down and the lip filing everthing is alright now. Why put up with the hassle? Because the Potenza RE-01R is one honey of a tire.
Treadware is 140. Great for traction, not great for lasting very long.

Good information Cliff! I was helping C-Dub move this morning & he was telling me about your tires. I was thinking either the Bridgestones or the Toyo's. I just looked on Tirerack & you can't get the Potenza's in a 215/40/17. Any ideas? I think my offset's a 42 right Dr.Steve?

uote=Fracky;2590074]Hmmmm.....that's an idea. Do you think a 225 would work on FDP & trim to fit? I think I'll need to run Pirelli PZero's to get a 215/40/17 because my other choices aren't available in this size. I printed the summary for TireRack & I'll be bringing it tonight.

If you could get 225/40-17 they would probably fit but it's a very rare size. 225/45-17 is out of the question.

Thanks for the hookup on the size & parameters for the new treads guys! I'm ordering the Pirelli P-Zero's today & having them shipped to Dave Kurata's, so I'm not rainy day drifting.
So why no BFG's this time? What P-Zeros are you getting?
Whatup JIMINNImachine! Dude, you didn't come by to visit last night - we were all looking forward to seeing you. Why no BFG's? Just thought I'd do something different & I'm looking for a dual wet/dry tire. From what I've read & what track junkies have told me the BFG is somewhat notorious for being poor in the rain. As much as I think the tread pattern is super-cool looking my impact with the tree changed my mind.

The BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 (KDW for Key feature: Dry and Wet traction, the “2” is our addition and identifies that this is the second generation g-Force T/A KDW) is the Ultra High Performance Summer tire that was developed to provide a blend of a dramatic-looking, ultra high performance tread design with superior dry and wet road performance.
I think Joe is right, in that the BFG is a "good wet weather" tire rated as a Ultra high performance Summer tire. But probably not as good in the wet as a strickly "dual performance" tire would be. But you give up dry traction when you do that.
Meh. Just get a Super Performance dry tire and don't drive in the wet.... In cases of puddles, the immediate loss of lateral grip causes the car to enter a spin no matter what. It doesn;t matter whether you had full wets or not, when your car is pulling .5g or more in a corner, the tire is not going to hold that once you hit a patch of wet ground....

Yup, but you will be having a blast while they wear out
