MAGICAL MYSTERY MINI TOUR 2008

Hi everyone,
Received this email from Redwood Empire MINI Enthusiasts(REME). This sounds like a fun weekend in SF.
What sayeth you all???
Cheers,
Michele

I know that many of the Mini Clubs will be planning their events for 2008.
Just wanted to ask you to set aside September 5-7, 2008 for the Magical Mystery Mini Tour in San Francisco, California. Minis are welcome for around the world.
Visit our website for more details and to get on our mailing list.

Magical Mystery Mini Tour 2008 September 5-7, 2008

Overview

This event will be a gathering of MINI/Mini Cooper enthusiasts from the west coast and some from overseas, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and others. We expect to have nearly 500 Minis. This will be a three-day event, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday evening.

Our event will be headquartered on the Great Lawn on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay. There will be Port-O-Lets/washing stations, tenting, dumpsters, fencing, tables, food vendors, and Mini vendors. We will have parking along the Great Lawn. Each participant will have a wrist band and their Mini will have a windshield sticker. This will provide identification and access to the Great Lawn and other events during the weekend. There will be security & parking attendants.

The Great Lawn on Treasure Island offers one the most spectacular views of San Francisco, especially in the evening with the San Francisco skyline on the background. The centerpiece of the event will be a Saturday Night sunset BBQ dinner on Treasure Island, followed by a live concert playing into the evening.

There will be daily Mini runs into outlying areas, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, Mount Tamalpias, Stinson Beach, the Napa & Sonoma wine country, the Santa Cruz Mountains, and a Sunday morning sunrise bonfire and breakfast followed by a drive through the streets of San Francisco.

Non-Driving activities will include shopping and sightseeing to such favorites as the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Alcatraz, a Dinner Bay Cruise, a ride across San Francisco bay on the Golden Gate Ferry, cable cars rides, visits to Fisherman’s' Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, watching Sea Lions, Pier 39, Russian Hill, a visit to the Cliff House, Beach Blanket Babylon Show, the De Young Museum, the Exploratorium, The Metreon Theater at Moscone Center, Palace of Fine Arts, Golden Gate Park, China Town, Japan Center, Muir Woods, and the Haight-Ashbury district, shopping on Union Square.

Schedule:

Friday:

Friday morning we will begin gathering at the Great Lawn on Treasure Island. This will the time for people to register, check into hotels, and get acquainted with the events, programs, maps, and give time for some tourist sightseeing and shopping in San Francisco.

Friday evening we will have a DJ for 4 hours 6-10PM to provide music and entertainment.

There will also be a Giants baseball game that evening (7:15PM) for those that wish to visit AT&T Park (Pac Bell Park), one of the “gems” of Major League Baseball.

Saturday:

Saturday morning we will have a Mini run across the Golden Gate Bridge, then up to the Marin Headlands, Point Bonita Lighthouse and the retired Nike Missile Site, up Mount Tamalpias and Stinson Beach.

Also for those that wish we will have Mini Cooper Day at Infineon Raceway (Sears Point). For the entry fee of $20 we will be able to enjoy the “Pinks ALL-Out” drag races which will be telecast on SPEED TV. Infineon will provide a MINI only corral and perhaps (time permitting) some parade laps around the picturesque 12-turn 2.2 mile racetrack.

The racetrack is located right at the gate to the Napa/Sonoma wine country. For those that wish to visit the lush Northern California wine country and stop by and sample some of the finest wines in the world, we will provide maps with locations and routes.

Saturday Evening will start at 5:00PM with a catered sunset BBQ dinner, followed by a live concert at 7:00PM featuring “Waterloo” – Northern California’s Premier Abba Tribute Band. Music will play until 10:00PM. Dinner will be prepaid and dinner tickets will be provided in the registration packets. These tickets will be required to get your dinner. Again there will be security, parking attendants, and a paramedic and fire marshal on duty.

The 10:00PM end to activities will allow those who wish to experience the San Francisco nightlife to return to the City by the Bay. We will of course be providing a list of hot spots & nightclubs for your entertainment. BUT beware…..

Sunday morning will arrive early. We have a sunrise beach bonfire and breakfast planned to get you started before the “Steve McQueen Memorial Run” begins through the streets of San Francisco. This run will include visits to Lombard Street, Coit Tower, Ocean Beach, the Broadway Tunnel, Twin Peaks, amongst many other San Francisco Landmarks.

On Sunday afternoon we will hold our Santa Cruz Mountain Run. This will wind us through the twisty “roller coaster” roads in the South Bay. There will be a Giants/Pirates Game at AT&T Park for those who wish to go.

This sounds like good times. Count us in for sure. Dancing in a SF park, at night, listening to some Bay Area hard house/trance....sounds like college days. I might have to pull out my moonwalking shoes & get my party hat on.

Jill took care of the hotel reservations today & we have our tickets paid. We're ready for some good times with y'all. Norm wrote us back about the Giants baseball tickets & said that they'd be purchasing a block of tickets once they had a confirmed head count.

Hey Everyone,
Hope to see everyone in San Francisco in September. I will get group parking so that everyone will be able to park together as a group. I will need to know approximately how many cars will be there. It looks like I will have a second band at the event for Friday & Saturday night (fingers crossed). It will be a lot of fun for sure.
Thanks.

Yeah Shelly!!!!!

Mark we can set up parking for clubs if that's what each club wants.

JIMINNI - Just got the flier from the Giants today. They propose a Magical Mystery Mini Tour section. You will be able to purchase the tix directly from the Giants and tell them you are with the MMMT. This will keep us from handling all that money and we don't have to purchase a set amount of tix and hope. I will be posting the flier and details on the Giants game in the next day or so. I think will work better for everyone.

Thanks for your interest in MMMT. Should be great in September.

Knowing that it is difficult to choose between all the MINI Cooper events, especially with gas prices and the economy, Hooked on Driving and Redwood Empire MINI Enthusiasts have joined forces to offer significant discounts for those that sign up for both HOM (Hooked on Minis) and MMMT (Magical Mystery MINI Tour). By registering for Hooked on Minis - Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows CA (Aug 21) and Magical Mystery MINI Tour (September 5-7) on Treasure Island you will get a $50 discount off the HOM event and $25 off the MMMT registration fee.

To get the HOM discount go to www.hookedondriving.com website, then the events listing – go to Hooked On Minis – click register and on the information page there is a box marked “gift or credit code” enter “magicalmysterytour08” then the balance will be reduced by $50 when you check out. For MMMT registrants just enter your HOD order number when registering to get a $25 discount on your MMMT registration.

Just a reminder

The Magical Mystery Mini Tour hosted by Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts is on September 5-7, 2008 on one of the most scenic pieces of real estate in all of California, Treasure Island (in the heart of San Francisco Bay). This is sure to be one of the premier Mini-MINI events in 2008 with participants from the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. There are live outside musical performances on both Friday and Saturday night until 10pm with the San Francisco skyline as a backdrop. The vendor village will be open daily until 10pm and the partial vendor’s list includes Mini Mania, Moss Motors, Edge Motorworks, AMCO Japan, Bay Bridge Motors, Wyvern MINI, Hooked on Driving, MC2 and others…

We have 24 hour secured parking on Treasure Island with buses going into San Francisco twice an hour. We have a catered BBQ on Saturday night and food vendors located in the Vendors Village on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - including authentic British faire.

Want to watch a Giants vs. Pirates game at the beautiful AT&T Park? We have a group organized for the Friday night game. Want to go on a winery tour? We have tours arranged at Mario Andretti’s winery in the Napa Valley and the Gloria Ferrer Winery in the Sonoma Valley. We have runs planned for the Marin Headlands, Mount Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, Muir Woods, and the Santa Cruz Mountains

It’s not too late to register! You can register on line or download a registration form and fax it to me at (707) 433-3239 and make payment easily through paypal.

This is going to be an exciting weekend of driving and socializing. Be sure to join us.

Here is good news for those of you that have been dragging your feet!

Because of recent announcements from both Mini Mania and Moss Motors promoting the Magical Mystery Mini Tour, and extensions for the "final number of participants" given to us from our vendors; we have extended the cut-off date for registration of $100 per car until August 20th. Therefore you can continue registering using our dedicated web site until then.

After August 20th, advance registrations will no longer be accepted online but registration will be allowed at the door on the days of the event as space allows. The cost of "at the door" registration will be posted shortly. Only cash payments will be accepted on the day of the event.

Unfortunately the tee shirt order has to be placed today (August 1st) so there will be no more pre-ordering of the event tee shirts. I will have some additional tee shirts available on Treasure Island but they will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Supplies will intentionally be limited since I want them all sold before the event is over. The tee shirt option has been removed from the downloadable registration and PayPal forms.

I look forward to seeing you all having fun on this exciting weekend!

We're totally psyched about this event & Dr.Steve's prepping the car for the event. In regards to each of these events: 1. who do we send the check to for two Giants tickets (assuming we'd like to write a check & not fax our cc info) & 2. How do we register for the winery event? Thanks!

I'd be a big loser and it would it be kind of moronic for me not to attend, especially since I can see Treasure Island from my condo on *** Hill.

Quite the list of events. I'll be there. But don't think I'll take my MINI since it's a bone stock machine and would look sad among all your fancy pants MINIs.

It's already bad enough that I am thinking of getting an S in a year or so. I am very nervous that the Red Gnat might find out two months into our relationship that I am being unfaithful. But it's a man's right to play the field, right. This dog needs to run hard and run free.

Michael,

Bring your stock Mini. I am sure it will look great and be very welcome. This is a MINI/Mini event. That's what we want are Minis. Please make sure to register and pay if have no already done so. You will get the registration/goodie bags, dinner tickets, wrist bands, window stickers, and be eligible for many of the great prizes being given away. This includes a $1000 free shopping spree from Moss MINI, several competetion items from Texas Motowerks, set of KONI shocks, free dyno session, free oil & lube service, free 4-wheel alignment from Edge Motoworks, and much much more.

Fracky,

Please register directly with the Giants. The contact information is on the pdf flier or website. For the Andretti Winery, please just register and you name will be put on the list. You will be able to pay via credit card at the winery. We will have the spaces reserved based on who registers.

Cheers,

Norm

There will be a lot of Mini-MINI clubs represented at MMMT on Treasure Island! Thanks to everyone that has signed up. You'll help make this a great success! Just so you know, registration has been extended to August 20th at the same $100 per car price. There will be no additional online registrations accepted after August 20, although day of event registration may be allowed if space permits.

I want everyone to know that club members will be able to park together throughout the weekend. We will assign locations for clubs represented with "at-large attendees mixed between the clubs. Clubs will also be able to set up club tent type booths and post banners to promote their clubs at no cost if they desire, if manned by paid registrants. Club booths will be able to be set up either in the parking lot or near the vendor's village on the grass depending on space restraints. We will determine that on Thursday when we are doing our final "set-up" touches.
