RMW Custom Dyno Tuning Rollcall
Hi everybody, just got back to work today after a nice weekend. Check out this thread: Revolution Mini Works (Jan) tuning in Atlanta November . The results from that day start on post #147. Looks like there are some great results after Jan did some tuning
. We are looking at some time in December I would think to get him up here, any thoughts?
Hi guys.. or gals
I can't stress enough the IMPORTANCE of having your car ready to go... it means the difference of getting your car tuned properly or not
things that MUST be checked by a qualified Mini pro
1. Belt.. must have the hole showing out of the tensioner
2. new plugs.... please NO denso's
3. proper injector sizes.... 380cc JCWs are the best for most applications
4. if you have an early model car have them check the by pass valve
5. Intercooler boots to make sure they are NOT leaking
these few basics will help you get the most out of the dyno day
we found up to 20whp on these mods alone
also... don't forget to check your fluids before coming!
let me know how I can help
jan
wish we had more time.... gained about 30whp on a M62 car but ran out of time, but the area under the curve was changed much. A very nice gain.
SpiderX gained a bunch and the other RMW headed car... both needed my 440cc special injectors to get to the 240whp + range (both had 380cc)
regardless it was a fun day interacting with new friends from the South!
Most of our customers run Densos. We have several dozen sets out there and check them when the come into the shop. Not one has ever loosened and they are good to about 40k miles. The problem I see with Densos that were customer installed are with torque. They either don't use a torque wrench or a bad one. Also, I have never used anti-seize on spark plugs and don't believe in it in that application. I have had aluminum heads on almost every vehicle I owned and have never once had a problem with the threads. So, if there is a good reason not to use Densos, please let me know.

Steve,
I spoke to Way about this also at the dyno day, we have seen the same thing with the Denso's as the tips tend to go bad sometimes rather quickly when the car isn't running just right. Glad to hear you have never lost a plug through the bonnet but most of the calls I get from people have had denso's pop out. ( I know... most probably have never seen a TQ wrench
)Feel free to call if you like
I will be on the dyno quite a bit this afternoon
Well it's looking like we are leaning to sometime in January. Jan, it looks like as 2 more sessions lined up back east, thru the middle of December. You plus Steve have some major repairs or mods to finish up. Me and Fracky are ordering JCW injectors. So as you can see it's still going to be awhile. We do need to all get together and hammer a date though.

I'm waiting as long as possible for my JCW 380's. The moment I know the "Jan window" I'll place my order. Between house project, Mini & Christmas time I've gotta work longer hours to make the moohlah to feed my mod-habit.

Ok, so here's where we're at with our car lineup. I'm **really** looking forward to having this done & I'd love to book an appointment with Jan.
So far we have:
1. Joe/Fracky
2. Dr.Steve/SRTech
3. Jim/JIMINI
4. Randy/Checkers * in midst of engine rebuild?
5. Chris/ChrisW * in if done at end of January?
6. Brad/Scooby03 * if car's back together soon?
Do we have anyone else to put on our list? There's gotta be more mod-addicted Mini people in our group. Jim, have you heard from anyone else? Also, my new JCW injectors look cool, but I'm even more excited to see/feel how they unleash the Frackmobile's inner beast!

Guys, I'm in the Bay area and may be a tentative.. Tentative because my 2007 MCSCa is still bare stock. But if this event happens towards the end of January or even Feb, I may be good. I have to get my car into BRRacing to get my stuff in. I'm planning on mid January for that.

I'm thinking I was going to give him a call this week just to keep in touch and see what weeks are still open.
Heres the results from the tune:
The final numbers are 200.4 whp and 176.1 wtq. e-throttle is improved massively and it is rich enough that I was able to get a flame to shoot out on let off. At one point I had a 4 foot flame, but the fuel was too rich and I was only making 198 whp.... I will have a video of the flame soon. Because my first run on the dyno was after a tune by jan, it was 202 whp and I don;t have a basline. Going by my previous dyno session on a dynojet, I improved 13 whp and 12 wtq. It could have been better if i didn;t have a damn exhaust leak (again!).... Anyways, I'm verry happy with the results and I feel comfortable ramping up the n2o for better quarter mile times. Thanks Jan!
