Clear Hood Cover
Clear Hood Cover
Hello MINI Enthusiasts! Although i have neglected to come to the past several MINI Meets in Columbus i do promise to come to the next TH breakfast meet. Yes, yes, i know...they're not optional
(or at least as i've been told).
But before that happens...could someone fill me in on what those clear covers are called that go on your hood/bonnet? They are basically contact paper that protect your paint from getting chipped. I think i might need to put one on my baby before it's too late.
So, what are they called and where you can you get it done?
Thanks for the info and/or any advice for a new MINI owner but a long time MINI enthusiast
See you soon!

It's called a Clear Bra and 3M calls it Scotchgard paint protection film. It is a polyurethane film.
Here is 3M's website, there is a installer locater there,

Youll definately want it professionally done..
Im sure they do work to protect the paint, but my opinion is they look bad.
Ive never seen one that I couldnt tell its on there (obviously from 5 feet away, not 30 lol)
Come to the breakfast and you can see them on a few minis, and the rock chips on the others, including mine lol

Haha. Noted! Yeah i've seen the clear line on a few...haven't totally made up my mind yet. The downside is that i live near a quarry and am always worried about the rock chips and unfortunately my previous car had a fair share of them.
So, still on the fence on the whole thing...Thanks for the input
And yes, see you at the next breakfast on the 21st!

FWIW I thought about having a clear bra installed on BLU BRIT. By the time I made up my mind, a week or so & the hood was already peppered with chips. If I could do it again I'd get one the day I got the MINI. These days a paint pen is my friend.
See you at breakfast.

When I was researching Clear bras, I found an article (that I can't find now) that showed some pictures in which the author shot a pellet gun at a film protected driver's side rear view mirror. One shot gouged the film on the mirror housing, but not the paint. The others pellet he shot didn't make a mark.
The article said that the film is guaranteed for rocks up to 60 mph, but the pellet was going over 600 mph.

I didn't get the invisi-shield bra until after I got rocked and $600 later to repaint the hood. Since then, I have be soooo glad to have the bra - and no one notices it unless I point it out. My next Mini will have it the day I pick up the car. It's been a fabulous investment. Highly recommend it.
See ya out there!
