Bad Day

Well, looks like Daisy's Clubman is going to be out of commission for a while. We got hit in the side and back by another car as we were going through a roundabout. Very disappointing as we've only had it since last month. We are all ok, just a little sore so we have that to be thankful for. We had it taken to TruePerformance as recommended by MAG. It just seems that it won't be the same anymore....

Sorry about the Mini. Was it a case of drivers not knowing hot to use a roundabout and talking on the phone?
On the brightside, True Performance does excellent work. I have used them in the past after my near miss with a deer.

It was a case of being 89 and not knowing how it works I think. Not that all 89 year olds would have that problem, but it just wasn't working for him.
Glad to hear that True does good work. Keeping our fingers crossed!
Look like we'll be bringing my MINI to breakfast Saturday.

Watch this before attempting a roundabout.

Glad you are all right. I am very sorry for your Clubman. They will fix it as good as new. At 89 I think the other driver should hang up his helmet.

I agree!

Hope you're back on the road soon, (almost) good as new!

Back where I'm from they call these "rotaries".

We have multiple roundabouts over here in Hilliard and it amazes me how confusing they seem to be for some drivers. The other day I had someone stop as they were going around thinking they needed to let me in.
Good luck with the repairs.

Cooperjet, I drive through that same roundabout twice a day and I can't believe how many people have no idea what they are doing. Hopefully you will be back on the road again soon. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at QSL on Monday, but I had to get some food when I got there.

Sorry for your MINI mishap, but glad you are OK. Several round-abouts have been built in the last 2-3 years here in Madison to slow down traffic; however, the learning curve is rather steep & many drivers do not know the righ-of-way rules involved. I try to avoid them if it all possible as I've had some very close calls. They were elderly drivers in most instances.

I'm almost to the point of avoiding that intersection as it seems most people passing through it have no clue how it operates. True Performance is a good shop, well at least the guys in the garage do solid work. I had a "difference of opinion" with one of the gents in the office but held my ground and all turned out well.

Yeah, I don't think that we will be going through there any time again, too many other routes we can take. I'm not sure that they will be looking at the car until next week.
My biggest surprise was that none of the air bags deployed. The other driver claimed that he hit us at 35 mph. Maybe they are smart enough to know that they didn't need to come out.
The other insurance company seems to be cooperating so far. Hope that it stays that way. They didn't give us any grief when we mentioned needing to replace the car seats.

Glad you are OK. Sheet metal repairs easily, flesh and bones don't. Where is the "Infamous" roundabout? Maybe we should hold a Solo or AutoX at this site

It's at Morse and Johnstown in Gahanna. Excellent spot for a defensive driving class

Sorry to see what happened, glad no one was hurt. We took keys away from grandpa at 87. I told him I "needed to borrow his car", it turned into more then a few months of "borrowing". Then we all pitched in to help shop & drive him and grandma around. He then decided to not drive anymore. All of us felt safer for everyone else on the road. Plus we all got to spend time with him would normally would not have.

Please let me know if you want me to look at the repairs before accepting them.

Get Well Wishes and Speedy Recovery to your baby, that's a lot of fractures and dislocations - or as we call in the hospital- a multi trauma mess

Now that's a really good idea. I'll have to remember that when my grandparents reach an age that they shouldn't be driving anymore.

I'm glad to hear that everyone was ok. Roundabouts are tricky. We didn't get our first one here in the DFW area until a few years ago and I frequently see people freak out when they get to it.

Oh, and you should join the Horizon Blue Owners Club if you haven't already!

Quick update:
The adjuster was out this morning. I was hoping to be there when they went over it, but I was never called .
The parts should be in next week and then they will start pulling it apart. After that I'm sure the order will be going in for the next round of parts once they pull all of the panels apart. So far we are getting 2 new doors on the passenger side, a new bumper, and the rear quarter panel will attempt to be repaired.
I was pretty impressed after talking to Wayne at True. I feel that the car will be given back to us good as new. He said that they take their time to do it right and are not the fastest shop in town. We said that is a good thing!
So it sounds like we probably won't be seeing it for 3 weeks at the earliest it sounds.

Glad you are in process & your MINI is on the mend. 3 weeks isn't too bad, took me 12 weeks to get mine from England.

3 weeks sounds about right, they are going to need some time to get that 1/4 panel back to straight and you do not want them rushing that job. The rest of the stuff should be pretty quick.

Yeah, I don't really want them rushing anything!
I went by MAG yesterday also and found out that an accident like this one could knock 15-25% off the value of the car. That number seems a little high to me, but if true really hurts when we go to trade it in. Does anyone know anything about devaluation claims? I asked my agent about it, but he wasn't extremely familiar but is looking in to it. Figure I would try to find out anything I could about it. I feel that my loss in value of the car should be made whole as well.
