Sirius for xmas help

So my fiancee got me one of these for christmas

has anyone installed one before and run the antenna wire? I want to put it in the cubby in front of the gear shift. Remember I have a gen one MINI. I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere with photos of how to run the antenna on a gen-one Cooper but I can't find it.

anyone want to help me?

Dan

I'm using an XM direct that mounts in the rear right side cubby in the boot. I fished the antenna up through the back under the headliner & out the gromit for the wiring to the hatch lid. My antenna sits behind the radio antenna on the roof.

I'd imagine your antenna lead has enough wiring to do the same with yours if you choose. Some folks put the antenna puck on the dash too.

Hope this helps some....

I ran all my wires INSIDE the down-tubes bracketing the stereo - just remove the star-driver screws and the inside of the hollow tube is accessible. I mounted mine with a bent strip of brass, slotted between the climate control and the switch panel - simple friction holds the brass bracket in place and Velcro holds the XM Radio unit firmly against the bracket.

The brass is coated with rubber tool-grip dip-paint and does not move a millimeter. This same set-up works with my iPod as well - I store the wires in the space beneath the switch panel, and the bracket piece slips out when I'm not using anything.

should have know the master mini electrician would have an idea. heh, thanks Matt. What do you guys think about putting the antenna on the dash and running the wires along the windshield and down around the passenger side and under the glove box like this guy did....

that seems pretty easy... any thoughts?

That's exactly how I ran mine - reception was always perfect. I ran the wire to the DRIVER's side though, so I didn't have to mess with the glove box - there's tons of space inside the driver's side knee bolster. To ge tinto it, pull down on the top edge of the bolster - there are friction clips on either top corner that are a bit tight if ypu've never had the bolster open... just give them a soild pull down and out.

For additional access, there's a little triangular plastic panel on the extreme side of the dash (inside where the door closes) that you can pull off for easy access to the space there - makes installing this and running the wires a breeze. Tuck the wire into the rubber trim on the side of the dash and the wire is 99.9% invisible. So it wouldn't get tangled in anything, I zip-tied the antenna wire to the member running along the bottom of the knee bolster and from there fed it to the down-tube.

Easy is good! I think that is a good place Dan. If my XM box wasn't already in the boot That is where my hockey puck antenna would be.

I keep receiver in cup holder on piller, ran wire under. Tucked excess wiring under driver knee bolster. Hockey puck sits on dash left of steering wheel. I can take out everything whenever I want. Came in handy when took out to use on vacation in rental car. Sorry no pics.
