I desperate need for a MINI mechanic
I desperate need for a MINI mechanic
Hello there, i've been bringing my r53 to a local shop for repairs, however lots of things have broken since this "mechanic" has gotten his hands on my car.
I live in the Braintree area, and was wondering if anyone could help me find a good mechanic around, my supercharger pulley is going so I can't take it on the highway -- it's quite a hassle.
Thanks

Somebody out there will know exactly who you should take it to but in the meantime, browse the "Independent Repair Shops" section at http://soopercooperinfo.com/
Save that URL to your MINI favorites folder for future reference. It has tons of links to everything MINI and is still growing.

Get the pulley replaced as soon as possible. If the pulley is slipping on the shaft, you can cause permanent damage to the shaft and have to replace the entire supercharger system. If the belt is actually what's slipping, that's an easy fix. I personally do all the work on my R53. I also had my pulley slip on the shaft, luckily I didn't drive it once I started noticing it was slipping to avoid further damage. I replaced it with the ALTA V2.0 15% pulley as it's design is way better than any other aftermarket pulley out there. Greasy's Garage is a fan favorite in my MINI club (MINIs of Boston - find us facebook if you like). I personally like to work on cars, but if you aren't experience with it, you don't want to really mess with anything without someone showing you or assisting you. There are plenty of write-ups on here and "the other site" about how to do most basic maintenance on MINIs including the pulley replacement and belt replacement. These are relatively easy with the right tools and don't take long to do either. If you need to replace the belt or pulley, I have all the tools to do it (including the belt tool and pulley tool). But your best bet would be to bring it to Greasy's Garage in Worcester

I hear amazing things from Greasy, however I am limited to going like 45 mph car feels so sluggish and Worscester is so far, about 2 hours away from where I live going 90 haha -- And I've used all my AAA towing miles between 2 car break downs I had.
My current mechanic said that the SC pulley was a little stiff, I will assume that just means pulley replacement. If anything else I'd be beyond sad because I can't afford a whole new SC or a rebuilt one, nevermind the installation.
