Just curious. Do you think the 05 ratios are better for the track?

Thanks, I know they are different. But "better" really depends on how you are using the car. My understanding is that the changes are as follows:

1st -12%
2nd -8%
3rd -4%
4th -4%
5th -4%
6th --4%

So you end up with significantly lower gearing in 1st and 2nd, with wider spacing between gears up through 3rd. You also have slightly lower gearing 3rd and above. Makes sense that this would make the car more "driveable" on the street, especially if you don't tend to take the revs up very high.

My question was whether these ratios are any better on the track, where you're never dipping below 4k rpm and rarely below 3rd gear. Thought Onasled could shed some light on this.

Yea, better on the track in theory and in fact as others who race have told me it's a great upgrade.
Yeas, 3rd gear is most used and having it a bit shorter would be great. It's rare that I get into 6th so it all helps. First and second do nothing but get me out onto the track.

Thanks, Onasled. That makes sense. I'm assuming the real advantage would be in pulling through corners when you're down near the bottom of the power band in 3rd. Probably little difference when you are wringing it out on a straight, though. Good luck finding one. I'm assuming you'll drop in a Quaife while you're at it.

No, most likely an Ultrik (minimania)

Somebody said they found 2 05 trannys in the thread about the gear change deal from England that Helix did. I believe it was Cosmic Purple. Good idea about not using the Quaife. Your option is much better for the track.

Greg, if you find a source for an extra, let me know. I just put in a new complete motor (certain major mechanical failure) and want to get an 05 tranny in with it.
