WTT: 03 evo VIII for JCW mini S
WTT: 03 evo VIII for JCW mini S
Like the topic says.. looking for a nice slightly modded mini S (preferable electric blue) or a JCW mini S for trade in north california. Driving a street legal race car to work everyday is great..especially on the california roads, but the evo is definately a money pit and Id like to get into a car i wont be so tempted to do major $$$ modifications to. This car.. like all evos already comes with two limited slip differentials, recaro racing seats, momo steering wheel to complement the 13:1 steering ratio and huge brembo brakes and a large twin scroll turbo. email is bdking57@aol.com
With the current suspension stifness, this car is very powerslide happy.. no problem getting it as sideways as you want and having the car pull itself out of the turns. Usually all 4 wheels will brake traction evenly during intense turning.

50K. I wish i could have one of each.. the mini would be the perfect performance daily driver to compliment this car. If your in a flat area that doesnt have very good roads then the evo is a waste.. its not a drag car. I dont launch this car ever(nor do i have the desire) although it would make 0-60 in 4 seconds or less.. it was simple not made to do that. Its the grip factor and steering sharpness that are out of this world.. only rivaled by porshe.. not as nimble or effecient as the lotus elise, but alot more powerful. The 11 month wait for a mini in california is preventing me from getting a new one right now.. and the evo IX is a few months away so im not sure what to do!
Downsides are that this car is very expensive to maintain.. plus time consuming. I spend a good amount of time on the weekend maintaing the car, having it tuned, checking connections etc... its very easy to work on which is a plus.
Id be looking for a mini that had a good amount of modification if we were to trade straight up. evo msrp is 32K and they also have a high resell value + this car has close to 10K in modifications.

I agree it isnt the prettiest car in the world(certainly not as cute as the mini).. but it is not made for shockingly good looks, its a homogolated FIA rally car and has it where it counts... like in its forged engine internals. I have some videos our our evo canyon runs that would be suicide to attempt in most any other car.

Interesting that you are looking for a car to spend less money on.
I work with a guy that has an 02 Porsche Turbo, plus he had an MC. He just traded the MC for an 04 Evo. Now he is thinking about selling the Porsche and buying another Evo to play with.
The reason? He thinks that Porsche stuff is too expensive and he could mod the Evo a lot easier.
Different strokes for different folks.
I hope you end up with what ever makes you happy, sounds like you already know how to have fun on wheels.

P.S.: It may be FUGLY, but is sure is mean looking.

guys, your fugly feelings are hurting my feelings lol You wont be saying anything about fugliness if you got behind the wheel.. to put it in perspective, even the fastest cooper mini s doesnt stand a chance against a stock evo on a road course, so this is the car to have it you wanna go really fast. just compare how well the mini does in autox.. and move that up to the road course and thats the level the evo performs at.. its not like a honda with a wing or anything ... and sound more like a v8 then a ricey 4cyl.. it needs the wing or it will fly off road.
I have found a mini i really like so i might try and sell this car locally.. look forward to joining you guys on the site if I can find one!
bdking, don't worry about all the "fugly" comments. I personally think the Evo is an awesome (and awesome-looking) car. I didn't the first moment I ever saw one, but it grew on me fairly quickly. When I was buying my MCS last year I seriously considered an Evo instead. But for similar reasons to where you are with all of it now, I decided not to. I had a car previously that I modded the crap out of and it just gets too expensive and it never ends. I wanted a car that I could be happy with stock and not feel the overwhelming temptation to mod. The MINI fit the bill. Plus there was less of a chance I would get myself in trouble with the MINI.
However, I don't know how much you've driven the MINI, but you might be surprised how much it can do in the twisties. While I wouldn't go as far as some people here, I would say that it could probably keep up with the Evo in terms of handling. Although I have heard that the Evo is absolutely stellar in handling too.
Good luck making the switch!

sound great.. this is part of the reason im looking to trade.. its hard to open this car up and really become a good driver unless your on a road course. With the mini.. its small size and scalled down performance, will make me a better driver, while still maintaing great performance.. i believe the skidpad numbers for the mini s are almost as good as the evos .93.. which is crazy for fwd. this is a great vid to look at if your unaware of this cars performance.. this is the top of the linke uk evo, but you can build a much faster one for around 15K in mods. evo vs lambo.

Hmm, link doesn't work, but rest assured I understand what the Evo can do, it'll blow you away.
I spent a few months on evolutionm.net. It really lit a fire under my *** for a while thinking about buying and modding one, but realistically I just began to understand that I wasn't really going to take advantage of all that performance and I should just get something that is suitably fast while still really allowing you to wind it out on public roads.. hence the MINI.
I think I may have seen that video, but if you find the right link, send it along anyway, I'd love to watch it.
