BigM,
Congrats on the V1! I know you will love it.
The install is very straight forward and very easy.
Just like any other detector.

One word of warning..... (this is also printed in your owners manual)
Your V1 is a top of the line Radar detector. It is a good idea to take it out of plain sight if left in your car unattended. Would be thieves who know about radar detectors will easily spot yours as a big money getter. Bottom line: Protect your V1 so it can protect you.

Happy Motoring,
SW

V1 came yesterday, one question. Where is everyone mounting their detector. With the V1 I need clean line of sight front and rear. I am thinking of the little hump in the center of the dash mounted with a small piece of velcro for easy removal. What do you think?

V1's are the best! My friend got one, and it's been doing it's job excellently for the past several months. It makes me jealous, but once i get an MCS i will definately be getting one too.

V1 is the funk. Score so far:
Valentine1------6
Police ----------0

I mounted mine with the suction cups just above my rear view mirror. Stealthy buy effective.

My radar/laser detector is now over one year old but I did some research and ended up buying an Escort. The Escort actually does better in the tests done by Road and Track and other magazines.

Whatever you use, it is a great idea to have a Radar and Laser detector. I stopped using mine for a while and then I was hit in a parking garage and my insurance went up. (Darn No Fault states, yea right!) Anyway, can't afford a ticket with my baby MINI on the way.

Oh, and to comment on the dude who admits to breaking the law: I always tell people, I may drive fast, but I don't drive recklessly. To cross double lines or to speed when conditions are bad is just plain stupid. In Ohio, we have fog, rain, snow, ice and lots and lots of DEER! It is way to dangerous to drive like a fool under most conditions.

Do the research on the laser/radar detectors before you buy one. But, the $200-$300 you spend on one may end up paying for itself.

If you live near Canada you can always pop over the border and ask at any police station for them to install it. They are more than happy to do this for you to make sure it does not interfere with commercial aircraft radar. They also want to make sure you don't have an accident if it falls off it's mounts while you are driving at 120mph. They always have mechanics available who work on the police cars and you should be in and out within an hour.

Good Luck

Pebble.

>> Quite strange, I live in Canada and radar detectors are prohibited, you are fined 400$, 6 points of demerit(I Think), your radar is also confiscated..at least in Quebec province and I beleive it is like that country wide. I would check twice before arriving at a police station wih a radar detector...

My truck was broken into a few years ago. The stole the radio, my sunglasses, and bent the dash but left my V1 that is in plain sight alone.

Keeping the V1 out of sight is a good idea unless the people who broke into my truck come alone.

Canada is not created equally....radar detectors are sold in stores through out the province of Alberta with out a problem..But illegal to use...well if it is a good radar detector you shouldn't get caught .....chezzzy pezzy!

Dat dare quebec is a strange country of its own anyways *wink*

Then have BOTH cars hardwired for it. The 1950's style pay-phone cord just has to go! Clean install with no cord makes it almost invisible if located above the rear view mirror. It is usually the cord and perfect center location that makes them so obvious and kind of silly looking.

With my V1 and my compact binoculars, I have gone 135 mph on deserted open stretches of Wyoming highways in my VW GTI.
