JCW exhaust leak?

Over the past few weeks I've been noticing a buzz coming from the driver's side exhaust which resembles an exhaust leak.

On a 1-hr highway drive today the inside of the car started stinking of exhaust (vent open w/fan on hi).

I can hear said sound bouncing off the curb or when in the driveway, which has a small wall along both sides.

I've been sticking my head below the rocker panel & stabbing the gas with my hand (looks hilarious, I'm sure) and it does actually sound like there's a leak around the canister right under the footwell (this is the resonator, or pre-muffler or whatever?).

Could this explain the progressively horrid mileage I've been getting over the past month (17/24)? Fouled O2 sensor?

Would this be covered by warranty? Its an '06 JCW with 21000mi.

I would assume it's covered under the warranty...i don't see any reason why not..i'd take it to MINI and see what they have to say..

i feel like exhaust is one of those grey areas when it comes to warranty, seeing as it's partially a consumable, like tires or plugs. aka: a wear-item
