Dealer or Factory JCW

Trying to figure out the easiest ways to decipher if my 2006 JCW is dealer installed or factory. Even though it doesn’t really matter, so my build sheet says 3AL not 3SAL. Is this one way to figure it out, what are the other ways?

I think 3AL and 3SAL are both valid and the 3 or 4 character code difference depends on which VIN decoder you use. Same with the LSD 2TA and it’s 4 character counterpart which I don’t remember now. If your VIN has both of those codes it should be a Factory JCW.

Other quick checks would be actual JCW front calipers and an LSD. Real JCW calipers have a thick curved cross bar that follows the hub, and R56 calipers have a thin straight bar.

I’ve read conflicting posts on whether you can tell if you have one by jacking up the front and rotating one wheel to see how the other spins, but maybe someone else knows a way to confirm an LSD without opening up the transmission.

The option code for the JCW Package is 3AL, although the code may be listed preceded by an S and followed by an A (S3ALA).

One easy way is to use this VIN decoder: https://www.mdecoder.com/

If it’s on there, it’s factory installed. Note - you only get one use per day, so get screen shots
