What's the difference between the factory built JCW and the JCW tuning kit installed at the dealer's?

Factory install gets you the limited slip differential, dealer doesn't.

I got the upgraded brakes and all the exterior goodies but

Does the limited slip differential make a difference for non-racing people who just want the little power bursts in regular suburban and road driving?

I don't have LSD, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten it. Not a very expensive option but a very expensive addition,

No. Its nice to have, might be a bit better on snow, but in most normal circumstances ... no.

As to the 07s, there are some JCW bits available, but no tuning kit, as of yet. (except for the 'verts; you can still order one of those with the full tuning kit)

BMW announced the acquisition of the “John Cooper Works” brand name after signing a deal yesterday. “John Cooper Works” is MINI’s high-performance badge. John Cooper Works has been tuning the MINI Cooper and the MINI Cooper S with kits that make MINI’s faster and sexier looking. No financial deals have been released but BMW said the deal will be effective as of January 2007.
