JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
I found a rough '06 Sidewalk Edition JCW R52 w/ 71k miles, with those beautiful baseball glove lounge leather seats, well optioned (except its got NAV) in black. The car is in rough shape for its age with the seats coming apart at the seams, a few little dings all around, needs a new clutch and rear bumper cover/hatch.
Seller (dealership) wants $3500 without a new clutch put in, not sure after. I have a new bumper/seats already from my last R52 (though not the lounge leather, which I would eventually want to find). I would prefer my mechanic do the clutch work so I could have bushings, crank sensor o-ring, supercharger service, etc.. while I'm in there.
This would no doubt be a labor of love. I just cant stand to see such a rare car become trash. If I fixed it up to look 8/10 inside and out, how much would it be worth these days?
Based on what’s out there, looks like $6-9k range depending on miles and condition. Sounds like a car worth saving.
May want to double check the year. Sidewalk was sold 2007-2008.
The dealership didn't know much about the car, but it actually belonged to my neighbor, who's an all around good guy but evidentially really hard on his cars. When I replaced my last clutch, I went single mass, replaced the control arm bushings, o-ring, serviced supercharger, ball joints, and tie rods for ~$1800. I'm guessing the new boot and painting my bumper will run another $1k, comes out to $6300. Breaking even looks like a possibility.
Sounds like its worth saving. You can get new seat covers from MINI. About 1300 from online dealerships maybe less from minipartsdirect? I have managed to buy two sidewalk convertibles this past year. Did the standard 100K stuff on both of them plus some extra axle/suspension work on the LOTSC car. A lot of the leaks and such are not that expensive in parts but not sure about labor. PM me if you want some more info . Its been awhile since we have exchanged parts
I could have purchased it months ago, its been sitting for a little while. The seller left it in the rain with the top down, several baseball sized dings, cracked rear bumper, bowling ball sized dent rear hatch, both front seats coming apart at the seams, needs new clutch and most likely several other maintenance items. On the plus side, it had low miles (71k miles) and its a rare JCW.
This thing was used and abused, so I'm only a little disappointed. There have to be more out there.
Aside from being a rare model, Sounds like it woulda taken a lot of work and money to bring it back from the dead. And even then, sometimes it’s just not the same as waiting for one that wasn’t so neglected or abused. I always walk immediately, no matter what kind of car. I don’t need the headaches. Borderline whether you woulda regretted that purchase.
Keep me posted. Whats the color combo / miles / options?
as it’s a LoTS car they are all the same factory spec, but could have a range of dealer options added.
the basic spec is that they are all:
Sidewalk Package
JCW Package
Astro Black
Black English Leather (regular brown sidewalk steering wheels)
LoTS badging (sills and grill badge)
there is one in NC for sale for $8700 posted in the Good deals thread, but in the last year I’ve seen advertisements from $6000 to $16000 for LoTS cars.
The car has Sidewalk pkg (Sport pkg, Luxury pkg, the nightspoke wheels, black seats, interior chromeline), JCW pkg and cold weather. It doesnt have
Chrono, Convenience pkg, or rear fog lights. My white sidewalk has Chrono and rear fog. Only found one JCW sidewalk that had convenience
pkg. It was for sale in California, 50K miles, right when travel restrictions were imposed due to Covid. Car has had a ton of maintenance done so
its in good shape. Pm me and can send some pics and list of stuff done.
So it has 85K miles, as previous stated black on black. And it does have the grill badge . Its number 90 of 100
I am selling my 2009 JCW R57, six-speed.. Part of the initial offering in the fall of 09. Not on their sales brochure. It is a California car. Impeccable condition. Really a collector car. It has 16xxx miles. Second owner.
