I have the ATI damper on my shortlist, looks like it a worthwhile upgrade

Well the car was running super smooth for about 100 miles.

I revved it all the way to redline in second and when I was cruising after that the battery light came on right before I got home and then the coolant light.

new belt shredded itself because the supercharger pulley locked up and won’t turn.

I made the decision to keep the car going. Before too long, they’ll be nothing else to replace.

I decided to go with Detroit tuned and their rebuilt charger because the core charge isn’t as crazy and the total price is a few hundred less than a new one. I also don’t know exactly what’s wrong with my charger and DT will give me my $500 core charge back, even if my PTO gears are thrashed. Could just be the nose cone bearing that went bad on mine, but not sure til it comes off.

Ordered the following from Detroit Tuned and Way Motor Works:

- Detroit Tuned rebuilt supercharger with 15% pulley
- supercharger inlet and outlet gaskets
- Detroit Tuned BPV
- OEM water pump and flange
- WMW aluminum thermostat housing with new thermostat, gasket, and bolts
- new belt
- cps sensor seal

getting everything installed for $500 so not too bad on the labor. But all in all, this is probably about a $2000 job. Hurts pretty bad, but I’m planning on keeping this car for quite a while. Probably forever lol.

I will say that way motor works had a better price on an OEM pump and better prices on the supercharger gaskets as well.

Anything else I should replace while I’m in there?

-Replace the coolant hoses + clamps if they never have been replaced
-Green gasket from the plastic intake pipe
-The o-ring from the coolant flange on the engine (where the water pump connects to the engine)
-Coolant temp sensor
-O-ring for dipstick tube
-Gasket for throttle body
-Intake manifold gasket
-Injector O-rings
-Vacuum tube for fuel pressure regulator with good quality silicone hose + clamps
-Belt idler pulley

Sucks that it had to happen though :(

Everything should be here Friday. It will be installed over the weekend.

Thanks for the tips on other replacement items. There are a couple more I can grab before the install. Can’t spend too much more all at once though. It’s already a big job.

Good luck man, fingers crossed for you

In the meantime, my ATI 2% has been installed. I love it

The ATI was a nice improvement over the lightweight cravenspeed that was on mine. Unfortunately the fun only lasted around 100 miles. I felt like I heard a bit of a ticking at higher rpm before the belt started shredding. Now wondering if I heard gears skipping and breaking on the water pump side. I guess I can ask Detroit Tuned to get back to me with what the insides of my charger look like after I send back my core.

I really doubt the recent ATI pulley and tensioner install caused any issues. It was running so good before it broke and it saw redline a few times.

Finally got the car back yesterday.

Runs amazing and pulls considerably harder with the new 15% SC pulley and ATi 2% setup.

Seems like there is still a spot around 3000rpms where the Detroit Tuned BPV wants you to accelerate or shift. It’s less of a yo-yo and more of a sudden surge of boost when you do actually get on the gas more around that rpm. Sounds weird, I know, but I definitely prefer it over the stock BPV. Although mine was pretty old.

I feel like the Detroit Tuned rebuilt supercharger is quieter than my old charger. After it was off, the old supercharger would spin, but seemed to click and clack a bit too much when you spun it by hand. Seems like the blades are making contact with the inside a decent amount. Shaft play I suppose. I’m no expert.

I threw in a new stock pass side motor mount and the clutch doesn’t really rattle on engagement like it used to. Didn’t realize how bad it was. Was probably taking life off my clutch.

Also replaced the fuel injector o-rings. Good thing because the old rings pretty much disintegrated when removing them.

I did have an issue with a 1385mm gates belt that was defective. Too short. Auto parts store swapped it with a non-defective belt.

Im sure I’ll need a clutch one day. Going to take it easy to nurse it a little. Can’t have that job coming up too soon after this one. Going to replace the rear strut mounts pretty soon though.

I’ll do a log and see what boost I’m hitting now and should be able to compare the curve. I think stock JCW was 12.5 psi or so. 14 psi or so when I added the 2% ATI damper. So maybe 17 psi now probably? I feel like I can shift sooner and still be moving quite quick with the boost coming on hard and early though so maybe that’ll keep me from taking to redline as much. Linear supercharger boost is so addictive though, lol.

The motor just let go. Can’t keep going with it. Someone can throw a used motor in it or rebuild this one and should be good for a while. Car is very sound otherwise.

Bummer after all that effort and new parts. Hopefully someone will save it.
